Too cool. Now I just need a bench vise...

Here is a good vise to consider, the VEVOR 6.5" vise with reverse opening....

I have it on my WishList and it just dropped 29%! I like the reverse feature with the larger opening. They have a 6" vise, non-reverse, for $10.00 less. I wanted to buy one before Christmas, but at the time they were selling for about $100.00. So, this price drop is really tempting.

Here is a YouTube review of the VEVOR vises...

I do have a smaller 4" vise, but I'm about ready to upgrade to this 6.5" vise by VEVOR. Especially with the current markdown in price. For comparison, Menards has their Masterforce 5.5" inch bench vise selling for $119.00...

FWIW, I use my bench vise a lot in the garage. It's one of my essential tools. I cannot remember a time that I did not have at least one bench vise in my shop. A good bench vise will last longer than a lifetime.

If I had an honest to goodness woodworking shop full of expensive tools, it might make sense to insure it as a separate rider on my insurance. But as part of my homeowner's insurance, it probably would not pay to make a claim.

I don't have much confidence that police will ever bother to investigate a theft crime. Maybe if you had cameras and caught a good picture of the thieves, they would take some action. That's the first thing our local police ask for, security camera footage. If you don't have security cameras, they won't do anything other than write up a report so you can reference it if you make an insurance claim.

There are a number of YouTube videos where people are putting some kind of iPhone locator tags hidden on their equipment. If that unit gets stolen, the location might show up on the phone app and you can alert the police.

:lau Some thieves are just plain dumb. Years ago, a guy broke the front windshield and side window of my wife's car to steal her purse, in broad daylight, in the company parking lot. Then he went to a gas station and used her credit card to fill up with gas - caught him on camera at the gas station. Then he went to WalMart and used her credit card to buy a $600 TV and some other stuff - again, caught on security camera at WalMart. I had called the credit card company to report the theft of the card and they gave me all the times and locations of the credit card used. I called the store managers and asked them if they had security camera footage of those transactions, and they did. So, I reported it all to the police and they arrested the guy within a couple of hours. Obviously, he was a repeat offender the police knew, and he was mentally impaired on top of eveything else. He was on a rampage of smashing windows and taking stuff out of cars, not just my wife's. It took about 5 years, but we got paid back for the damage to the car's windows that had to be replaced. Basically, I had already solved the who, what, where, and when of the crime and with the security footage of the thief, the police did not have much leg work to do to catch him.

At any rate, I hope you are able to recover your tools. Good luck.

my only hope is that the stupid pakisatani guy didn't use gloves. police will come to check for fingerprints.

my house is at the edge of the village without a visible road. even some people that were born here don't know where it is. only someone who knows it did it. unfortunately this guy's boss called me a day earlier and I told him I would be away the next day. he robbed me at the covid lockdown as well. his boss was so stupid to leave the keys at the stable where this pakistani guy live in a room next door and takes care of the sheeps. unfortunately that fact was not enough to press charges against him. he had plenty of time to get rid of my things.

I forgot to mention, I need a bench, too.

There is a wooden work bench in our shed, but it's buried in the back, under a lot of "stuff".

Well, here is a YouTube video on making the Ultimate Modular Workbench: A Design for Everyone that I have made out of pallet wood. I like the 2X4 design modular design because I have a relatively small garage and need to move the work benches out of the way when I park my cars in the garage. Because of the design, you can bolt (and unbolt) these workbenches together in any number of different ways to suit your needs.

I built the framing of these workbenches out of pallet wood. I bought a 1/2" 4X8 foot sheet of plywood from the cull bin at Home Depot for only a couple of bucks - they cut it down to 4 pieces of 2X4 feet. I used that for the top because it was nice and smooth.

For the wheels, I bought a 1000 lb. capacity dolly from Harbor Freight on sale for $10 and took the wheels off the dolly for use on the workbenches. That saved a lot of money considering those wheels sell for about $5 each otherwise. That dolly still goes on sale for $10 about every other month, or so.

I built each of my 2X4 foot modular workbenches for less than $15.00 each, and most of that expense was in the wheels for $10 per bench. If you need a workbench but have limited space and need to move it around, that modular design is pretty good.

Edit to add: One of my future upgrades to this design is to make one of these workbenches with an adjustable height top. That way, I could put my mitre saw, table saw, or band saw on the bench at the proper height to make it flush with the other benches. Still working on the idea in my head, but it would be nice to adjust the height for any particular saw I was using at that time.

Nice! But no pics? LOL

OK, it took me a while, but I found a picture of my completed 2X4 foot pallet wood modular bench build from 2022...

I built 2 of these benches, so far. I would like to build another two maybe this summer. If you notice, there are drilled holes in the top frame that allow you to bolt these workbenches into any number of configurations. There are bolt holes on the 2 foot sides as well.

The open design under the bench top has advantages for storage of larger items, like that 5-gallon bucket and those totes, but I hope to upgrade one of my benches with pull out drawers/bins or maybe a shelf system to hold my parts storage cases.

Very nice! I think I have everything I'd need to make a pair of those. Plenty of OSB for the tops, pallet wood, cull 2x stock... I even have a couple of those Harbor Freight dollies that I got on sale last year and never used. When I get the section of my shop that has a bare concrete floor organized I'm going to build a couple. Maybe even add some simple drawers for easy access to stuff.

I really like those modular workbenches for general purpose use in the garage. Of course, the real value is bolting them together in various configurations for your projects. Sometimes I need an 8 foot long workbench, other times I need a 4 foot wide benchtop. Most of the time, the 2X4 foot workbench is enough.

If you have not viewed the YouTube video I linked to, I would recommend watching it for more ideas.

I have just ordered this one. I cannot live without it. it has two 5Ah batteries. the stolen one had one fairly consumed batery maybe 2Ah. after an hour of work I had to charge it as it didn't have much strength. this one is also half price what I paid the previous one. and this one is 24V while the other one was 18V.

Good to hear that you were able to find some replacements for your stolen tools. I hope that kit works out well for you. Hope to see some pictures of your coop build when you start.
