Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

That's why I'm thinking of an A-Frame design. I don't want to come home one day to find my chickens crushed under the weight of snow on a hoop house dome.

I just got another load of pallets, so I would have enough to build an A-Frame out of pallet wood, but it would not meet my goal of being mostly transparent. Maybe I could cut out lots of slats on the pallets and open it up for sunshine, then cover the pallets with transparent plastic to keep the snow out. However, I'm thinking of just building an A-Frame skeleton with pallet 2X4's and covering the frame with plastic. Still considering my options.
Hoop houses need a beam going from one end to the other up top with supports on both ends .This prevents them from collapsing under snow loads. The other reason they collapse is people make them too wide (weaken the structure)Snow should slide off the sides.

Exactly. I have looked into building a hoop house for a long time. For my area, I think I would have to have a narrow base, high arch, and still run a beam the length for support. I don't want to have to go outside and brush off the snow during a storm.

But, I am thinking I want something easy to put up before winter, and easy to take down in the spring. Slapping together some 2X4's with screws to make an A-Frame seems easier to me.

Guys, ...I don't have anymore pallets 🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭

I guess that means you are using up your pallets on good projects you need. That's a good thing. I have been saving up my pallets thinking I might try a pallet shed build in the future.

I just went to Harbor Freight yesterday and scored another 6 pallets. Two of the pallets were of good quality wood, but the rest are more suitable for compost bins. Well, some of them have slats good enough to cut down to 16 inches for my planter and raised bed projects. So, I can't complain. They just had a bunch of rebuilt pallets with spliced wood supports, etc... Not the cream of the crop on that load. Those pallets would be good maybe for a pallet shed when you plan on covering them up with additional boards/siding/etc...

Anyone actually LOVE the look of a pallet build?? I love leaving the outside as full pallets bc I actually enjoy how they look when it all comes together..I LOVE the old worn look vs the brand new look!

I have been impressed with the looks of the Goat Garage, Hen Hut, Pig Palace, etc... I don't know if I can say I LOVE the look of pallet builds, but I see the beauty in making something out of reclaimed free wood instead of buying new lumber. So, I'm frugal, and see the beauty in reusing things when we can.

I can't say that I LOVE the looks of my pallet compost bins, but I love the functionality and low cost of using those pallets. Ditto with my pallet garage workbench build, the pallet potting table, and my mobile pallet wood storage bin for holding my pallet wood.

I LOVE how people are sharing their pallet builds and uploading pics to inspire others on a pallet project. :love

I was out of town today, cleaning up a house, and came back with a trailer full of reclaimed dimensional lumber/wood. I have some work to do taking out nails and screws, but I think that load of reclaimed wood is worth about $200 or more. So, happy day.

If/when I start my pallet shed build, those reclaimed 2X4's and 4X4's will help tie everything together and add some strength to the build.

In the meantime, I have so much reclaimed wood that I will have to build a pallet lumber rack/shed outside to store it all. That's the kind of problem a person looks forward to having. Not looking to build anything fancy. Just something to keep the lumber out of the direct rain and snow. Will be looking at YouTube tonight on storage ideas for pallet lumber racks. If I build something, I'll upload some pics for you guys. My backup plan is to store everything in an existing shed I have, but that would not be my first choice for that limited space.

 I need DH to bring home some more pallets... SO much inspiration in this thread!

I put a new, heavy duty tarp over part of my run last week. (The light duty tarp held up remarkably well for a year!) But now I'm thinking a wood roof with pallet shingles would look pretty darn cool...
I am glad to hear this abt the tarps as our round roofs will be covered by a tarp...

I read a blog that had said the same type of building and tarp had been going strong for almost 2 yrs!! Here's to hoping...

If you do a pallet shingle roof...I CAN NOT wait to see pics

I don't make anything out of pallets I have to take apart later lol
