Bravo to all of the talented, creative work!! I love this thread! And it just saved the lives of 6 big ugly pallets that were on death row awaiting a firey ending as I'm sick of looking at them. I'm inspired and granting them a stay of execution. Thanks!

I know you like to use your pallet wood for projects, but I wanted to interject about how wonderful my cattle panel trellis worked last year for my tomatoes.

I have a cattle panel arch for some grapes too...they work wonderful. It's been in place for a few years now. I'll try to remember to get pics later today.

I really want to get some cattle panel and make some arched trellises. @fuzzi, would it be a problem if they were left in the elements and ground all year? I can see them being a bit of work to get into place. Any harm in just leaving them?

Mine were not hard to put in place, I did it all myself.

They look fine, don't see any rust, either.

Well, I'm not @fuzzi, but I can tell you that our local Fleet store stores their cattle panels outside all year round. There should be no problem setting up a cattle panel trellis and leaving it outside. Those panels are meant to be outside.

I think putting the cattle panel in place should be relatively easy. It's getting them out to my house that would be a challenge as I don't have an open bed pickup. Unfortunately, the delivery charge to my house costs more than the cattle panel itself. The cattle panels at my Fleet store are 16 feet long.

Someone on here put the panels on top of their minivan. I think I referenced it in my chicken journal thread. I'll see if I can find it.

I think putting the cattle panel in place should be relatively easy. It's getting them out to my house that would be a challenge as I don't have an open bed pickup. Unfortunately, the delivery charge to my house costs more than the cattle panel itself.

I'm thinking they'll fit in the open trailer we have. I've seen pictures of them arched in the bed of a pickup.

Sorry for all the quesitons, but do they take on the curve when transported that way, or spring back flat? That would be some serious energy released, if they spring back!

I don't think Dear Wife would let me transport some cattle panels on top of her SUV, but it looks like it would work fine as long as you don't scratch the car.

They will spring back. I would recommend using the buddy system to control the cattle panels so you don't get hurt. I don't know how much tension they are under when arched, but it will act like a giant spring. 16 feet of spring in the case of a cattle panel.

There are a lot of great pallet/salvaged wood projects and ideas offered by the BYC members. We would love to see some pictures of how you end up using your pallets. No project too big, or too small, to share with others.
