Show me your pics of dog kennel runs - and required wrapping

Mine has shade cloth with grommets that I got from Lowe's. It is 9.5'x9' and the pen is 8'x12'. I put that over the hen house and used hardware cloth for the other 3'. Zip tied it all down. I zip tied 3' wide hardware cloth around the bottom of the pen 12" high and pinned the other 2 feet to the ground with sod staples to prevent digging by varmints. It's very secure. Notice the grass or weeds has grown through the hardware cloth on the ground.

I am worried that I need to wrap the whole thing in hardware cloth and not just a couple feet on the bottom. I am scared that something could reach through and grab someone if I dont. Am I being over protective? Will just a few feet across the bottom with a good apron be enough?

To answer this question...Another question to add - How are you "wrapping the chain link" I cant seem to get my head around how we are going to wrap the HWC and attach it to the chain link. Would zip ties work? Or do we need to get something else?

We used zip ties to fasten the hardware cloth, but you could use hog clips too if you wanted. I don't think you'll need more than what fishin-nole has in their set up -- you could go one more row up I suppose to ease your fears. After the pics were taken we put landscape timbers all around the bottom of the kennel & buried them a little to protect against digging critters.

TaLani - One more question for you, how did you attach the kennel panels to your coop? I am planning to have my coops outside the run as well since it is too tall to go inside with a cover in it.

I just did the bottom in the event I let a hen hatch some biddies. If you have a lot of 'coons or possums you may want to wrap up to 3 feet on the bottom. Get the heavy zip ties that are good to +185 degrees.

We used a Saws-All (sp?) to cut a hole in the kennel and coop, then built what we call a tunnel, inserted the tunnel into the coop & then shoved the kennel right up against the tunnel. The pic below is as if you're looking down at the tunnel. Then we built little steps for the chickens to get down to the ground. We had to do the tunnel because the coop was actually a shed that had an overhang for rain, so we couldn't get the kennel directly up against the coop/shed without cutting into the roof.

Here is mine. It has chicken wire under the dirt and also over the top and 2 feet up around the perimeter. I also have an electric hot wire all around 6 inches off the ground and 6 inches from the top. I never close my pop door and I live in a high predator area. Never lost a bird in 2 years due to the hot wire. My wife calls it Fort Knox.
