ok so i just got started today, about 2 hr worth of work, got the frame built, screen on the bottom as well as plywood on the bottom, back and front

still need to cut a door for me to get in there, close off the 2 sides and cut a door so they can get from inside to out, move it out back, place on stands and put the top on

then trimming, sanding, checking for any sharp spots on the inside that might hurt them and finally paint, then they can come home!

Love the custom pens. My plan is for a small confined space. Am going for a hideout in the suburbans.

Plan is for a rack in the basement or under the deck. Following the vision of the GQF rack system.

Purchased a GQF 3 section breeding cage to get started. See a colony grow cage and a colony layer/breeding cage within the month of June to be built. The cages that I build will be of the same dimensions but of course.

Noted dimensions in the comments.

Thanks, I kinda flew by the seat of my pants. I'm not a builder so just took ideas from all the GREAT People on this forum . I still have to put poop pans under the wire not sure what I'm going to use . Maybe 3/8 in plywood trays with vinyl flooring glued on for easy cleaning. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Another idea I had to put them on the ground to forage yet small enough to move about the garden and yard. I made this with an addtional smaller base but then decided they needed to have some romp-around space. I think this would be good for coturnix. I'm always building and comin up with something new.

May I suggest using underlayment instead of the 3\\8th plywood. Its 1\\4" and looks like mahogany plywood. It is used for "truing up" uneven floors before laying vinyl. Its also the cheapest plywood product in the section. Home depot with cut a sheet to your specs for free if you ask. I cut it close to size and outlined it with 3\\4"x 1 1\\2 boards. I never got around to applying the vinyl so they get wet but still work well. With vinyl they would last for ever. For a pen your size I would make 2 or 3 shorter ones so you dont have to carry pans that are so heavy while covered in quail crap...Bill
