Show me your SMALL coops!

Do you want pics of ones that are planned to be added? I have one from tsc coming in April and some modified hoop coops I can draw better plans for if you want. Also do you want measurements and number of birds in each coop?

YAY! I like to shine!

I even wrote a review on their website since I love it so much. Those of you who aren’t familiar with Omelet, it is a European Company which sells enclosures and items for animals like chickens, rabbits, birds, cats, dogs, and more. Omelet is probably best known for their chicken runs, which can be purchased in tiny sizes of 7’3” W, 3’9” H, 7’3” L to their largest size 10’3” W, 6’8” H, 25’3” L (which I own). Because they are stationed in the UK, Omelet strives to make their runs as fox proof as possible. The wire mesh protects any birds inside, and the skirt on the outside keeps out burrowing animals. It also is covered with the same wire mesh so no climbing or Ariel predators have a chance at a free meal. After owning the run for 2 years I have had 0 predator issues, and trust me, that’s saying a lot because I was having them on the daily. The runs are walk in and have a really easy to access door. They also sell auto doors for your chickens and have their own line of coops called “Eglus” which will safely attach to the run. Omelet sells extension kits if you want to upsize your flock, and you can attach it to any existing coop you have that isn’t an Eglu. I love this run so so much and I completely recommend it to everyone with a small backyard flock!

Pros:
The most predator proof run to exist!
Super sturdy
Skirt to block burrowing animals
Wire Roof
Can attach to any coop
Can be extended
Etc

Cons:
The double door is annoying at times
Not the widest chicken run

I think you're already familiar with my Little Monitor Coop.

This is what it looked like with it's original run:

This is the current look after it's remodel:

And the interior:

There are more photos, plans, and detailed notes about it's pros and cons in the article linked.

IMO, it's particularly well-suited to hot, humid climates and has enough architectural interest to be painted up/trimmed up to look good in places with strict codes about the appearance of outbuildings.

I'll try to remember to take picks of our mini coop tomorrow for our 2 hens. It's a plastic dog house. Flipped the roof around so there is a back window and front door, with the intention of using the back window to collect eggs. Ended up just opening the roof or reaching in the door for eggs since the ladies decided they prefer to lay by the front door. So I moved the perch to the back. Right now I have the back window covered with plastic because it's been so cold and wet this week. I don't think this would work well for more than 2 or 3 free range hens max, or in a cold climate, but it's worked well for us!

Oh, and we use pine shavings on the floor. Do a deep litter method.

I'll include a photo of the type of dog house I used for now. Got it free from a neighbor, so only cost was some hardware cloth, screws, and a 2x4. And a teeny amount of paint. I had it all lying around except the hardware cloth, which we had to buy anyway to build the run.

Ok, found one photo of it finished. It doesn't show the inside though, so I'll still try to take one tomorrow.

It is by no means a masterpiece to show off to your friends, but it is functional and secure...and most importantly INEXPENSIVE, since you can often find people giving away dog houses.

Here is my chicken tractor that I built using a TSC prefab coop. I added some additional hardware to firm-up the frame, better anchored the hardware cloth, added a 2"x6" lower frame with wheels and a drag rope. It has been going strong for 3.5 years now and serving my three girls well.View attachment 2533050
What breeds do you have in it?

I had honestly thought about buying either of these two model to house two chickens from early planning stages. Way before I thought I should reclaim my old coop spot. This stage was just thinking of having two Easter Egger. 🙈
