With chicks growing fast it is time to start reducing the adults. Starting with a m/f pair of BJGs and a prairie bluebell that has never laid. All just under 1yr.

PBB Live- 3lbs 9oz —> 2lbs 6oz
BJG hen - 5lbs 1oz —> 3lbs 9oz
BJG roo- 6lbs 9oz —> 4lbs 10oz

Left to right is PBB, BJG hen, BJG roo.

First time processing hens. Both hens were greasy, actually made them hard to hold onto once I started gutting them. It was interesting to compare the reproductive tracts of the laying and non laying hens. The rooster was certainly from poor breeding stock, I had a hard time getting my hand inside as he was very narrow. A shame the BJGs didn’t work out for me, I wanted to use them for making my own meat birds. The roo has a handful of mixed breed kids running around so maybe there is still hope?

Put the prairie bluebell on the rotisserie, breast meat was tender, thighs and drumsticks a bit chewy but perfectly edible. Fatty and juicy, nothing was dry.
