You should hatch more chicks!

I will, later on after the temps cool down a bit. It's 110F. here today! By the time I do it, all of the eggs will be fertile from the pens of these. The female chicks sell fast, but I always get stuck with the extra cockerels and have to get rid of them.

You won't have to wait 6 months. Mine started laying during the 5th month, I think it was around 22-23 weeks.

Yes, I agree. I can't believe it is a 110 degrees there! Here in texas it is only 75 degrees!

Well, I'm out here in the desert. Next month the temps will be worse. I've already had my misters on a timer set up out there for them. I have a Splash Australorp hen that I have been having to keep chasing out of the nesting box for 5 days now. I keep trying to tell her to wait to do that after it cools off again, but she's not listening to me.

Yes, I feel bad for her. If it is over 100 degrees out, then it isn't a good idea to let her sit on the nest. One of my hens ended up dying just for laying an egg in the hot weather. My others were close, but I stayed by them and kept cooling them off and giving them water.

My next door neighbor who bought 5 Black hens, and 5 Blue pullets of mine (the Blues are already laying now) just had a Black Australorp hatch out 6 Blue chicks, and now she found another of the Black Australorps with a hidden nest. She let's her flock free range on her 3 1/2 acre property, so there are many places around there to hide a nest, and then have chicks popping up all over the place.

I was never told the breed of this chicken. I am pretty certain it is an australorp. Does anyone have an opinion?

It could be, but they also look similar to Black Jersey Giants. Check the underside of the feet. If white, then Australorp. If yellow, then Jersey Giant.
