Show off your baby chicks!

Just picked up my first chicks about an hour ago- I'm already in love. They are polish and I plan on getting some black Orpingtons in the next day or two.

In for a penny, in for a pound (or whatever a Henway is these days.) There's some confusion at the local TSC regarding whether these are Black Australorps or Dominiques. We shall see ...
Just comparing pics online, I'd guess they're Dominiques. The Black Australorps appear to have a brighter beige belly and the beige is more wide spread. But don't quote me on that.

The seemingly-knowledgeable sales associate said they were Dominiques. Another went to the floor manager, and came back with "Black Australorp." At the register, the cashier looked at me like I had three heads when I said "Dominique." The internal debate continued as we left and took our container of unknown-breed-but-black-and-cute fuzzbutts to the car. Either will work.

Well, the barred chicks tend to have a head spot that gives them away regardless of what breed they are. Dominiques should have a "pea comb" instead of a "straight comb". I don't see a head spot on your chicks, so I'm going to guess Black Australorps- very similar at this age.

Here are what our Black Australorps looked like at 2 days if it helps:

Totally cute! I fell for the Polish this year too... don't even care if they lay well. The polish and frizzles are here to make me smile, that's about it. They've got it made. =)

I made the mistake of stopping by the feed store. "Just to look."

Came home with five "Ameraucanas" (EE) and one buff Orpington. We got there just after they set the chicks out and chose the ones with the poofiest cheek and chin tufts. They can hardly see!
