Show off your baby chicks!

Half chipmunk?

Where did you get it?

Leg color? Clean or feathered?

There are numerous breeds and mixes that start off with that chipmunk look. You can narrow it down but may have to wait for it to grow up before you know for sure.

For example, I have a chick that was supposed to be a Welsummer. After a week, I became suspicious that it was actually a brown Leghorn. They are both pattered like your chick and your chick could be either of those (among other things). The clues that mine gave were feathering speed and build. I still cannot be 100% certain but the long, high tail is now apparent further supporting my hypothesis. Because of where I got mine, I know that those are the only two possibilities so that really narrows it down.

Leg color is...idk...dark and yellow mixish??? We got them from tsc. They are bantams but not sure what kind.the legs are clean.

I was thinking bantam chipmunk but then realized that didn't work. Lol

Well...I begged enough that I have 4 more babies----I thought I would put them in with my two I got a week ago and when I got home it was obvious there was WAY too much of a size difference.

So..........I got another brooder set up ---

I ended up with 4 different little hens----first of all- my first girls:

Miss Prissy and Dixie Chic strutting in style!

Now we have:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer ---my new Buff Orphington -- Buffy is slaying more Z's then anything as she likes to face plant in the feed bowl a lot.

Her bestest friend Willow (Buffy the Vamp Slayer) (RIR) Who is quite sexy and she knows it!

Plymouth Rock-Partridge - Katness Everdeen from the Hunger Games

And my Black Australorp - so far I have Primrose Everdeen from the Hunger Games but.....we'll see if this sticks. I don't know their personalities at all yet so it may change!

Best post of the day! Love the names! Your australorp looks like what was sold to us as Wyandottes. At least I think. Below are our wyandottes and last one is our australorp.

Btw...my five year old son named our australorp "Joey" which I thought was awfully clever of him.

Joey is too cute!! And what a really clever name..... I may have to steal that one one day (as my very small flock grows)... and THANK you that made my morning to read your comments--we all love it when our babies are admired.

I agree your 'wyandotte' looks alot like my "australorp". I am guessing we'll see what they grow into....as I'm trusting the feed stores when I buy and I have heard that they don't get it right all the time! In any event----your lil chicas are drop dead gorgeous and will be beautiful!! I can't wait to see them grow (virtually!)

Fun to see their little helmets coming in.

I know this is a chick thread... but this is where my chicks came from. Lol

Well, they do have bantam EEs, too, which would typically have tint over yellow legs for a greenish look. You might get tiny green eggs from your bantam chipmunk some day! I'd suggest posting in the what breed/gender section when the chick has most to all of its feathers (sometime around 6 weeks). The comb will be easier to see then, too.
