Quote:
Do you have pics of your OE? and do you sell hatching eggs?

I haven't took pics in a while right now i have crele , self blue, Lemon blue ,brown red, lemon blue splash, porcelain, fawn duckwing, silver duckwing , and nobodys laying
roll.png

My flock changes from year to year i'm like all oegb owners it's whatever strikes my fancy usually.
I also have some modern game i plan on breeding and some perfect silver sea brights i got at the show every pure white feather is trimmed in black.

My spring plans are up in the air right now i have had several request for me to sell eggs but i have never done that and it will be based on what i hatch.
My incubator went out on me and i have to get a new one , But i do alot of setting hens too.
As most oegb people can tell you sometimes oegb eggs are few and far between

Mine will start back laying say January and i will hatch those and if i have extras then yes i would be willing to sell some eggs.

I will definitely have chickens next spring for sale i sell all my overage and these are show size oegb

OH DEAR!! I greatly apoligize to the OP for being off subject i love to talk about my chickens "Sorry"

The Barred Rock in the first pic and the Sexlink in the second pic are roos for SURE, probably the EE in the first pic too. From what I can tell the Buff and the Red on looks like pullets.

Oh wow all your birds are so pretty!
I´m really thinking about starting a more serious breeding project to get a striped flock, but keep it in mixed colours.
Same pattern on different base colours in one flock... I think I like this idea. This should still improve the pattern. Oh and I have fast feathering birds and the pictured chick was between 3 and 4 months old, her pattern got much better by now, so I think it´s been that.

For those of you working on silkies. I know they do have red combs and it takes a lot of work and time to get them somewhat darker more close to the standard, because the cuckoo gene inhibits the dark skin. But it is possible to get their combs somewhat darker

yes? Does anyone have pictures of silkie cuckoos who already achieved a semi dark comb/wattlers colour? How long/many hatches did you have to wait for a crossing over? And how did you establish it into your flock? And how do you pick the birds to breed with?
I´m asking because I have a phenotype Swedish black hen (dark skin & black feathers) as well as a blue hen with dark skin in my flock. These dark faced birds sometimes occur in Swedish coutry chickens. They are not related to silkies, but I think the genes causing the dark skin/bones still are the same ones ... how crazy am I for thinking about a breeding project leading towards dark combs on a flock of cuckoo birds with different base colours? I just can´t help it, I like the soot-faces more than the red ones and I like the cuckoo pattern at the same time. It´s hard to decide between the both. So I just had to ask, even if may be silly to attempt the impossible and combine both traits

I don't know how many crosses it will take to get the Cuckoo silkies to where we want them. Yes, it like trying to get water to run uphill..LOL I just keep breeding them to my best black silkies and keeping the best cuckoo to cross back to blacks again..I will keep doing this until I get there or give up...hopefully not the later.

Thank you swheat for your explanation. That gives me more of an idea how it is done.

I usually like long term projects, so I might start an attempt with this, too.
Thanks again and good luck with not giving up

We have a Wyandotte/Orpington cross rooster that is interesting. He isn't very friendly as you can see. Likes to live outside the coop since he doesn't get along well with some of my other roosters. I haven't always had much luck catching him either. Really need to find him a new home or stew? Anyhow, I have always thought he was pretty.
