Show off your coops!

I've got 11 right now using that feeder, and so far there hasn't been too much pushing and shoving...the predetermined pecking order pretty much decides who eats when. I put a plug in the bottom of the Y fitting so the food level never really goes down too far unless it is empty, which never happens as I top it off regularly. As for them figuring out how to use it, they were 6 weeks when I put them in their new coop and it took them about 2 minutes to figure it out...smart little creatures!!!!

I actually tweeked this design from several I had seen here on BYC, and kinda made it my own too..

Here's our new coop/run combo. It's been occupied about 3 weeks by our 9 week old chicks. We've still got some work to do before we're done.

I refurbished and expanded upon the old coop I had when I was a kid. Some of the materials were purchased, the rest was scrounged from stuff that was laying around or in construction site dumpsters

. It's still very much a work in progress, but the chooks don't seem to mind that they're currently living in a hoopty

The kids love the drive through, and we love the tube feeding system. Since Chris (the man in the family) is a plumber we even have all of the supplies already and are looking forward to building it.

Our coop was made with material we had laying around, the roof was some leftover of our roofer friends. We didn't follow any sort if plan.

Originally it only had chicken wire walls then we had a cold winter and the planks were added. The whole front opens up for cleaning.

the nest box (right now the cage against it is the daytime spot for our newest chicks)

and the easy access egg collecting door. It's our 4 year olds job to collect the eggs, so usually there is a stump next to it for her to stand on.

and this was our coop originally, before the solid walls were added.

Here's my current coop situation:

Got plans to move it into the back yard and hook it up to an old swing set we found along the road and are in the process of fencing in. It doubles their usable space. It's taking lots longer than I thought due to a string of rainy weekends (and my reluctance to work on coops when we finally have a sunny weekend

Here's my shed converted into a coop.........off to the right of it is where their old coop was which I just finished tearing down yesterday...there's still some materials in the picture, but at least it's gone

And the inside with many roosting areas, nest boxes, and brooder 'pens' which has a 2 level area for teenagers to go out to a penned area outside, with the top of the brooder pen for a broody or isolated bird (in this case it's a meatie with a weak leg).

And here's a pic of the back BEFORE I moved the brooder cage and attached a kennel for a predator proof run while we're away.
