You'll need some of the basics:
Blue layers - pure Ameraucanas or Araucanas. DO NOT buy from a hatchery or feed store, as those would be Easter Eggers and won't lay blue eggs. These might be bit of an investment for hatching eggs/chicks/etc.
Dark Brown layers - again, you won't get anything good from a hatchery or feed store. Marans, Penedesencas, Welsummers. Look at the auctions here on BYC or elsewhere.
Olive Layers. These are a cross between a blue layer and a dark brown layer. Some of us are selling these mixes on BYC (self promotion: I'll be starting auctions in Feb). These would likely be your most productive non-hatchery bird.
Tinted - your Salmon Faverolles!
Bonus: Easter Eggers. You won't know exactly what color you'll be getting, but its possible to get muted light teal/mint/olive/pink/etc.
White layers - all over the place, hatchery OK. We went with hatchery Minorcas this year, for their silly white ear markings.
Traditional Brown - hatchery OK. Production Reds (sold as Rhode Island usually) would be a good choiceif you like friendly/inquisitive birds.
