If you ask an expert like Miss Julia, then there are no colors in a sense.. She believes in breeding like the Japanese, where a blue wheaten/blue red, a Wheaten, BBred.. etc.. Would just be called I believe a "Akazasa" or something like that meaning I think red hackle. She pays no attention to color, since Shamos don't typically throw the same color patterns. Like my Shamo stock is typically BBred/wheaten.. But Prariechiken has had them throw solid black fowl. And my bird has a few speckle spots in him too.. His brother I might would even call a Brown red, but never really worried about it.

They came from Jim Zook, he said his stock came from Horst Schmudde and has never had anything crossed into them (except the stock I have, which is a cross of I believe three lines..) When you look at Mr. Zook's website you see grey fowl, BBred, Wheaten, Crele, White, etc.. He's even sold a few blue wheatens and such too.

Miss Julia's breeding focuses on type, temperament, and health. Or at least mostly.. Which is what I plan to breed towards too, the only color I won't breed if it pops up is the barred patterns.

Who from Illia if you don't mind?

I was going to ask the same thing my self? Looking forward to the pics?

Daniel I though it was your fowl posted on a thread about rare breeds recently?

pride&joy :

Hey has any one ever heard of this breeder http://www.gamefowlsite.com/ I came across his site and feeling a little tempted, oh boy.

That was fowlman1's bird, but I'd like to have get some like that too. In a couple years maybe I can afford some from a guy I know who has Miss Julia's stock, or maybe find out how to get a hold of Suzann Chung.. But not sure if she sell's many or not? As for the breeder, I've seen his website but that's about as far as I know of him.

Felt like posting some photos. These are my whitehackle stock, really the stag has 1/4 Shelton Roundhead blood.. He is being bred back, hope to go back about to 1/16 or 1/32nd roundhead blood.

May get some new photos of him later, he is currently about 6 months old.. Acting lots better now that he is man enough to rule the whitehackle hens and has been integrated with them.

Hey Daniel, if we lived closer to each other, I would gladly give you a few pure bred Shamo stags. As you know, they reproduce readily, and as I have nothing but Shamo birds, I end up with way too many stags and it always seems such a shame having to send them to freezer camp. Right now, I have my main man who will never go to freezer camp, and then I have four other youngsters. One youngster is about 8 months old, while the other three are just shy of seven months, and now all hell is breaking loose here:lol:

The youngsters have always had arguments, but with plenty of space to free range, no serious blood was ever spilled. That changed two weeks ago when one of the youngsters decided he was man enough to take on my head stag, who before I got him, was a regular in the pits, so he knows what he's doing when it comes to fighting. Anyway, it all happened so quickly, but the result was, the youngster had to be culled due to his injuries. The next day, the same thing happened again, and another youngster had to be culled as a result. The four remaining youngsters know better than to challenge my head stag, and for the most part, he's more concerned with looking after his girls than he is about the youngsters, at least for the time being.

Let's just say, it's been quite a learning experience. I know I could keep several stags in individual cages or on tethers, but I simply don't have the time or space, and I also don't yet have enough hens, considering most of them always seem to be sitting on another clutch of eggs. In fact, out of 7 hens, four are walking around with chicks, and the other two will no doubt go broody any day now. Ah well, at least there won't be any shortage of meat next year with all the excess stags:(

I so wish I could post some pics, but my computer is not recognizing any USB devices for some reason. Once I get that sorted out, you can expect loads of photos

Just an FYI if you have a cell that takes photo's you can text them to your email address to get them in the computer. My wifes phone takes as good a picture as my digital. Just not as good a zoom.

PS. Thanks for the compliments Chief, the first hen is my favorite too. She is the stags mother.

Thanks for the tip. I think my phone must be slightly outdated. It does have a camera, but I can only use the photos as wallpaper or as a screensaver. There's no option that allows me to add them yo a message:(

I look forward to seeing the pics of your proven cock. I found that my shamos did about the same think, tolerated each other until about 7 months. Then they beat up the JG rooster (17 lbs) who kept peace in the stag grow out pen. I ignored that clear warning (wont happen again) and a couple of days later two of my favorites tied one on that only left one of them to tell the tale. I may not have been smart enough not to have recognized trouble was brooding, but at least I had given some fowl from that line to a friend who lives close by and still have access to the blood line.

Hey Daniel, that white legged stag reminds me of one we had about three decades ago. He was lg for his kind and time 4 lbs 2oz Spanish game. He was something (lightning in a bottle) and passed on his traits well. Funny how time does not fade some memories but nice birds.
