Sounds like what I call a gold duckwing. Duckwing white and shoulder is orangish. Hackles have a wee bit of yellow.

so about how early on do yall start culling. i know that if chicks have deformities but i want to know is what you look for in stags and pullets as far as culls

anyone got any tips on keeping records i have no clue on how to make or even keep a record book any advice would be greatly appreciated

To make things easier, I cull birds hatched after June 1. Makes for easier comparisons in fall. It is my opinion the spring hatched birds are better than summer hatched. Difference is environmental, not genetic.

What are the differences in spring vs. summer? Ive heard this somewhere else as well but wondering what your reasoning is.

Birds hatched earlier have better access to premium foods while they are putting on bone and muscle mass. Parasite loads maybe lighter as well.
