nice , his main tail and sickle should grow longer next molting.
When mine are molting I add dog food to their diet, if the pieces are too big for them to swallow
I get it soak in water.
My measure for their diet is a ¼ of their meal
When I had my Yokohama rooster his diet was ½ scratch½ dog food
His tail grew around 7 feet not bad for a hatchery bird

The body of your 5 month old seems to be a bit fuller than my young stag. My stag seems to be growing
long and tall. Right now he looks almost pheasant like. He still has a way to grow.
He's been free ranged and spoiled most of his young life, he is now penned up with some more mature hens and is starting to really come into his own.
I've had a couple stags in the past that staggered in development, 5-6 month old stags that looked to be only a few months old and take forever to mature. I don't prefer rapid growth or slow maturing
birds, I myself prefer a nice medium but some bloodlines develop differently.
BTW nice looking birds, what is their bloodline(or as far as you know)?

gamelife,

Extremely confident he is of my families line. They have been consistently slow to mature and not noteworthy for color or length of back as you have already noted. Despite slow growth a good many mature at about 6 lbs. or slightly over although sire of these guys is only a little over 5 lbs 10 ozs. Part of negetaive on latter bird is he is late hatch. I hold the opinion that late hatch birds, at least of what I have, tend to be short on long feather developement relative to full siblings hatched earlier in year. They do catchup when molting into full cock feathering.

This is the same bird as above at 5 and a half months old(Rat Graves Leiper).
I took this photo with my phone so the pic doesn't do him a much justice and he wouldn't stay still.
I'll post some better ones later.

Thanks Fowlfrenzy,
The last couple of posts of pics is the same bird(Rat Graves). He's making great progress. He's a little
younger than the Leiper I have in some of my other posts which is of a Harold Brown/Jimmy East bloodline(my avatar). I'm happy with the similarities of the two bloodlines I have as I'm planning to keep their uniformity and deep game. I'm looking forward to this years offspring.
Thanks again, I'll post more as they progress.
