I love the color of this hen, she is beautiful!! I have always thought game hens are the best if you want broody, but it surprised me that they are not even on the list on the broody hen thread.

I googled it and apparantly mclean hatch will throw blue and green. According to the website it means that somewhere in the family a chicken had white legs. There is also cecil hatch, but they are only blue legged.

All hatch families pretty much will throw a combination of blue and green, sometimes yellow too (Doc hatch mostly). I've raised two family of Gilmores, various Doc Robinson hatch (though they are all tied in together to some degree, just from a few different breeders), three types of Ruble Hatch, seen Blue Face hatch in person among many others on other peoples yards. I've really never seen a strain of hatch that didn't throw blue and green (though many do come mostly blue legged at times, blue would take place over green a lot of the time due to green being a cross of blue/yellow) except for the yellow legged hatch fowl which should come only or mostly yellow (some may throw green legs occasionally).

I wouldn't classify it as a dishonesty on the sellers part really, a lot of people only name two type of hatch "Green legged hatch" and "Yellow Legged hatch"; but there are really three, just the green and blue legs are tied in together always in my experience so perhaps the correct term to be used should be "Dark legged hatches".

God bless,
Daniel.

Found a couple pictures to keep this thread alive. You may notice that we are not the richest people

These give me some ideas on how to build some new coops! I really think some people are going above and beyond in their coops. I personally just wanted a cheap coop so DH said he would build one for around $400, well after all the stuff he added (I mean do they really need a 10 ft coop & run if they are a heavy weight?) it ended up being closer to $1,200 and took a year to finish......I like yours more, they seem more functional. On the flip side the richest people don't always have the most money,
