Show Off Your Games!

I have four good Wheaten hens so I am not worried about developing hens, what I need is a Wheaten rooster to go with my hens. Same thing for my Brown Reds. Where I live it is almost impossible to find good Gamefowl of any kind, and what you do find is garbage BBReds. I was extremely lucky to find the beautiful BBRed rooster I have, but it too half a year and cost too much to get him. I have never heard anyone even mention Wheaten or Brown Reds around here. It's all BBRed. Someone must have them, because I have the hens to prove it, but finding them is another problem. If I can make my own from what I have, I will be happy.
In American gamefowl wheatens are BBRs or a version of rather. You have your dark phase hens which would be partridge in color
and usually throw darker red males. Then you have your lighter phase hens(wheaten) which generally throw lighter red males. I do
see though that in the OEG world they do seperate the two. When you say you want a Wheaten rooster are referring to a lighter red?
Breed your BBR over your wheaten hens and see what you get. As far as producing a brown red cock for your brown red hen, you might have to
bite the bullet and find a reputable breeder. It will save you a lot of time and yes it will cost you but time is money. You could spend years breeding
back to that hen and you'll have to add new blood eventually anyway. Check out Wilhite gamefowl videos on youtube, he has some nice looking
Wingate brown reds. There are some quality fowl out there and most breeders will ship, be it hatching eggs or live fowl. It is always
more expensive to not start off right. I hope this helps.

Yes that helps quite bit. I Suspected that there was not a lot of difference between the BBRed and the Wheaten, but did not know for sure. The problem with finding a true brown red rooster is that I don't really know what to look for. Unfortunately, when it comes to AG's most people have a different vaule set then SOP. If you say something like, " I have a Hatch Bull Stag" they know exactly what you mean. But if you say, "I have a young Brown Red AG male," they are like, Huh! They could care less about it's color, they want to know it's heritage. So it makes it hard to know who to believe. At it is that way around here locally.

Anyway. Could post a picture of what a true Show quality Brown Red is supposed to look like?

You don't need a brown red cock at all. Breed your BB Red male over your Brown Red females, and, depending on the female, the offspring will be either half or all some version of brown red. You then take your best young " brown red" looking stag and breed him back to his mother, then take the best male again back to the original hen. At this point they should all be coming fairly good brown reds. If you want pictures, look for brown red old English game bantams, or Black Copper Marans are also brown reds genetically.

I'm sure someone will come along and post some pictures of their brown reds. I do not have
pictures of any. I've always been a Black Breasted Red nut. I have been in your situation a
few times though. You have hen that you want to breed to a cock that best emulates her.
So you breed her son/grandson back to her, and yes it'll work, and sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do especially if she's a jewel. You seem to be particular
about your birds and that is good when it comes to breeding, don't settle for junk. I've had great
success starting out with an unrelated pair of the same breed. Then breed cock to his daughters/granddaughters and the hen to her son/grandson. This will set you up with two families of the same breed and if your breeding is right you can breed within the two families
for years. You say there isn't any quality fowl around your parts, that could be a good thing
if your'e the only one around with good birds!

I think you will have Brown Reds long before you have Wheaten if you are talking about(cage show ) there is a lot of deference in BBR and Wheaten Is this the color of your wheaten hens? This is along way form Show Color I'm up against the same thing with my Bobby Boles I'm playing with Color

I have to say I'm not a fan of breeding games for color, but I can tell you that the brown red hen is most likely a hennie from that coloring.
