In my opinion good ones won't bite you at all, some of the best ones i ever had you couldn't make hurt you... (Except a grey i had, scared his hen and he wasn't too happy about that). A lot of the people i know cull ones that are manfighters (even if it is only biting), that can't be gentled down.

I agree with most of the other describing their personality, if you haven't read the BYC breed page Crazy there is an article written there on American gamefowl (large fowl).

Yeah I suppose these days you don't really want a bird that will bite the person who is judging the beauty contest. Back in the day we didn't mind getting bit by winners.

lol, I don't mind a few mean birds, they keep people from bugging me when I'm out there. they would be more likely to changes a few cats mind about trying chicken too. but I know that most people don't want that. being noisy is ok too, and keeping the roosters apart.
you are the only person I have seen with bantams so far, but I have not been to any shows other then a few fairs. I've thought about them though. are there fewer colors in the bantam?

Yep I've read the BYC pages, I need to read it some more though, cuz there was too much to sink in at once. and I've been to americangamefowl.org, got it saved.
I've got time to make up my mind, I need to get some more coops up and get my other breeds going. but these guys are never far from my thoughts. I could have gotten some from a friend, but they are closer to a barn yard mix, plus they are %100 free range. and I did not feel like trying to trap birds, get laughed at by my buddys, then have to pay for stock I don really want, not when I can get some from a breeder.

I have American Game Bantams (AGB's) & standard size gamefowl, and two colors of OEGB's. The AGB's come in the same colors as the standard size birds, assuming someone has taken the time to breed the stardard size birds down to bantam size. I have golden duckwing (grey), black breasted red (hatch), and wheaten (butcher). Depending on how the breeder breeds these birds down from the standard version they may or may not retain the dead game attribute of the larger fowl. In my case my BB Reds (hatch) remain dead game, the golden duckwings (grey) are pretty close to dead game, but the wheatens (butcher) are not dead game. The wheatens will still fight but only until a pecking order is established. The OEGB's are the same way, they'll fight but only until the pecking order is established then they stop.

When all of my birds start laying and my incubator is full I'll start selling off some of the fertile eggs, later in 2010 I'll have started birds to sell.

right, I saw your golden duckwings

keep me in mind if you have some to spare. are you going to have any crele OEGBs or eggs in 2010? they are on my wish list too. I like the hatch birds too, but I'm going to be adding at least 4 other breeds plus more Delawares, layers and silkies {for brooding} so I think that will be enough for a while.

I like the hatch/kelso rooster, he's a good looking bird. The spanish/roundhead cross will probably look real nice when he's in full feather. Congrats on the new birds!
