That's how my rehabilitation efforts typically progress. A stag or cock that gets upset over me disturbing a hen, especially one going broody in the pen. You may have to watch him a little early next season but problem should be largely licked. If you had a large number of birds where time is a real issue, then culling is likely to be more effective. I would have a difficult time justifying the breaking of the man-fighting habit with any number of birds. A single bird does not hurt you but having several in a row put it you would not be worth it. Best to avoid the habit from starting.

Yeah I culled a couple greys for that the other day but the rubles were a little harder to find and have so few I'm going to work them some more and I have somewhere around twenty or so little ones and one hen that should set any day now. I'm shutting down the incubators for a while and just let the hens set.

I am asking if all of you think this is a good idea. so I built a new brooder box for 3week and up chicks and I wanted to put it on my enclosed but not heated back porch. so I got it built its 3x3 and 2foot deep . I was looking for something to use in the bottom of it for litter etc.and with me using wood to heat my house and my big pile of coals from that wonderful winter we had. and a pile of fine Poole sand left over from another back yard project I had so I thought back to my fish aquarium days and the activated carbon in the filters so I thought now y cant I smash up some coals and mix that with some of that sand and use that for litter/bedding and maybe the char coal will help keep the smell down. I also folded up a sheet of aluminum foil into a 9inch x9inch pad to put there treats on but so far so good .I also put in some perches cents the brooder is so tall and they do use them. I just want to see what you guys think I will get pic's tomorrow also come on guys its dead around here only five post in 2 days and this is are busy time of the year. lol

I do remember an old cocker saying wood ash kept mites and other stuff away don't know if it's true. I will say they will probably love the mix to dust in which depending on the parts per ingredient may get dusty, and do u have any fresh air flow? If not it may make them sniffle and nose runny.

As far as posts I've been pretty busy as u said now is our time of year and I've been shipping eggs and tending incubators and broody hens. Shipped to California Arkansas and Michigan today have 4 broody hens 1 I stuck 9 eggs under today moved some asil eggs to the hatcher and checked on the hatch from yesterday and let a guy pick his pair of rubles. And probably some other stuff I forgot

I don't have a fan on them but the brooder dose have an open top with 1/4 inch wire across the top.
