Show Off Your Games!

Just wondering do you remember the first fowls that were yours? Mine was a grey cock and hatch hen. The cock was gifted by a mentor he had a bum leg. When sparred he would fold it under every now and then. I cared for him about 6mo then was gifted a spurred green leg hatch hen put them together and the rest was history

Mine were based on some of our hens on grandfathers walk that were covered by a grey toppy cock (first grey I recall ever seeing. Pullet was an early season hatched silverquill that escaped normal harvest by roosting in a hard to spot location in old farrowing house. She was one that was planned to be kept owing to her mother, Stag was gold duckwing half-sibling that did not make the June 1 cutoff or get a trip to Sunday dinner because I hid him in a second burlap sack when pulling him off roost. I had been eyeing him for a months so really had intent with him. I hid both for a full month from everyone trying to protect those two prizes. Later turned out grandfather new what I was doing by next morning and was double checking care. I was only about 7 so double checking needed. Those birds were my training bed and pullet was around a good seven years later but she does not figure into what I have now, sadly as she proved to be a producer of consistent quality offspring despite being a cross.

Those I had were good natured. Those in the hand of the fellow I met in southwest Missouri may have been man-fighters owing to his handling. Frankly he sucked in not knowing how to handle birds. They were kept too tight and not handled much at all. They were also in poor condition. All that could have been corrected in a month by somebody with a little better husbandry skills. His pens were too tight.

Apparently blondie lost his spur in the bout against the modern.. Will it grow back?

@JShubin yeah they will grow back. I had one lose a whole spur when he got out of his pen and got ahold of one in a pen. Not sure on the time it'll take to grow back though probably around 6 months.
