In what context do you mean holding his own? I would think the modern or modern cross would back down as soon as scrap got under way.

Awhile back I posted something like "if anyone asks the question, are moderns game? The answer is definitely yes"

Well I came home to find my modern and my grey locked in an epic dual. Both were so exhausted they wouldn't stand after pulling them apart. It was sad but I was surprised, because I suspected the same as you. Both survived fine, after a few days they were back to normal.

The modern never seemed afraid afterwards. I think it was his first encounter with this stag and was unsure and therefore scared. He had always been caged next the grey and they taunted eachother all day, giving him a hated for that one in particular.
