I would love to see this bird after the first molt. I am aware of Hf/Hf and Hf/hf but I have never seen it manifest.

I hope I can find a picture showing same bird in full bullstag feathering. He has some > greater than 1/2 brothers (his sister bred to his father) that are very similar colorwise so far. Assuming this bird does not represent a mutation himself, then odds are one of those brothers will exhibit similar about this time next year. If a pre-existing allele it could not come from female side of line since too many cocks raised up without any showing it. I have not seen it on cock side of breeding and it should have manifested in this guy's sire which he is currently 3 years old. My bet this guy is an outright mutation if no hormone problems involved.
 



I do not see how you get away with male birds separated by only one layer of fencing. For me that would be a mess. I can get more than one walk on a farm with mature cocks that have separate territories barn what you show is time bomb for me. Getting beyond that, I like the stag in the foreground.
