Most of my birds are well into molt or not yet mature. Even cocks are yet showing eclipse feathers.

I cannot have two cocks together without fighting. Most of my chickens are put away during the day (except mamas with babies). I let all the youngsters out in the afternoon after work. And i usually let one cock and his hens out as well.. supervised of course so they don't kick the fences.

A long time ago i kept all free range. Only one cock ruled the yard with several stags who kept their distance. A pecking order would establish and weaker ones became obvious and they would be culled either thru natural means or I'd find them a new home. Good stags were kept and would hang around until they felt confident enough to usurp the king. Or come to rule if king was lost to coyote or something like that.

@sdm111 I called the man back that I got her from and he said she was a miner but she had some red in her and that's why he sold her. Now that she molted the red isn't there. If I bred her to my Miner cock would the red come back in the offspring ?
