As I awake each morning, I am thankful I do not live in a town banning roosters. I love to hear my guys different crows. Some people on byc have to get decrowing surgery, the vet charges 600 to 800 per cock,

i think the same thing every morning, well on the weekends anyway. I leave for work before they wake up during the week. I have one white faced black Spanish that is crowing at 3:50 am every single morning. He's a weird bird he goes to bed about an hour before sunset year round. I think he's just lazy. Lol

I personally think decrowing a rooster is ridiculous especially at that price. If I couldn't listen to them crow I wouldn't want to keep them anyway. If a rooster crowing wakes somebody up in the am than they need more exercise to tire them out. I could sleep through a rooster crowing in my face in bed.

Crowing for mine can go all night. Any disturbance can set them off resulting in a few dozen crows being belted out in just a couple of minutes. When I sleep out in filed to watch owls, I doubt there ever goes a solid hour without a least a few birds crowing. A single cock kept near house belts out crows a couple times a night but does not go through the high frequency crows until an hour or two before dawn. When they all start coming off the roost is when the fun starts with cock chasing every single free-range hen and juvenile about as they come down. The chases do not occur in the pens.

Mine come out of the pole barn rafters and the chase is on. Boss rooster not allowing anyone else to breed. Or he will knock them right off the hen. Hens will scream if being raped bringing boss on full run to attack
