Well see, that's different. Lacy Roundheads, and Pumpkin Hulseys are strains instead of a breed. But if we're talking about that too, what is a lacy roundhead? Allen (and Shelton, both the same birds) roundheads, Albany, Claret, and in the 1980s a brassyback butcher was added in and bred out. The pumpkin hulseys started out as a three way cross, Claret, Barnett wonder, Butcher, and then a pumpkin of unknown origin (but believe to be a blue cross). Then after that hatch. And most of those strains were just crosses bred by breeders and set as a family to reproduce as they wanted.

Cubalayas are crossed a lot, so are many other breeds. Even the "pure" Old English Game has Oriental gamefowl in them, just selected to come purely single comb and in cases like America white legs. If all of these can be called "pure" why should Cuban gamefowl be exempt?

ETA: I'm not saying a first generation cross can be called something pure, but when something has had just as much selection, and time poured into it as much as any other breed. Why does it still not deserve to be called a breed like the others it is equal to?

i looked it up on feathersite.com and there was quite a few gamefowls listed as breeds; old english, american, puerto rican, brazillian, columbian and spanish. no cuban gamefowl listed so i will say again they are a mix of spanish and american and not a true breed.

cubalaya,
You really misunderstood what I was saying.
When I said
If I'm not mistaken the Cuban Gamefowl are a single comb bird and carries there tail higher and yours look to have a pea comb and carries there tail low something like a Cubalaya.

I was asking if they where Cuban Gamefowl ( the breed also called Cuban ) or Cubalaya because the looked more like Cubalaya than the Cuban Gamefowl..

When I say Cuban Gamefowl I mean the breed of gamefowl as seen here http://www.angelfire.com/ak/gallofinos/

Feathersite doesn't have every breed there is, i can tell you one i know of off the top of my head. Peruvian gamefowl, developed from Spanish, Old English, and Oriental games. There is only a few sites about them, and they're very new to the US as there is only one breeder (that you can trust anyway) who has them and a friend of mine who bought the birds from him.

Information i wrote, but gathered from my friend who got it from the breeder who imported them can be found at the Ultimatefowl Wikipedia, under the spanish gamefowl section and then "Peruvian Gamefowl". Pictures are there as well with a link to the breeders website. I would post the info here, but it does mention cockfighting (since that is part of the breed in their homeland) and that is against the rules here, (and there too actually, but they understand it is just part of the breed and you can't deny it.)

The book "Histories of Game Strains" mentioned they were mainly Cuban/Spanish gamefowl blood, with some American i believe. You can find the book online here- http://books.google.com/books?id=VQ...v=onepage&q=George W Means red cubans&f=false. There are definitely pure Cuban Gamefowl (as a breed), but the Red Cubans and Cuban Doms (haven't heard of the doms, and that's hard to say as it could be referred to as both colors, or a strain) but i would probably classify them as a strain of Cuban gamefowl being as they were closer to that type than anything else.

In my experience with Cuban games ( gallo finos) in Cuba and here in the U.S. These are chickens kept by cooker for that purpose. Most roosters weight around 2.5 lbs and the only trait they breed for is gameness (meaning no turce no surrender). The ones I am familiar with would closely resemble what was described as Puertorican game. The only time I ever heard an old time Cuban cocker butcher and eat one of his birds is if he has too many hens but does not want his game lines coming back to haunt him. I am not by any means condoning or promoting any form of animal abuse or attempting to promote anything illegal. Just speaking for experience Love this site and this thread soon I hope to have pics of my new hatched Asils and fast growing Shamos
