Not at all, I'm appreciating all the information. I do have another question, however. What should I begin to look for in order to differentiate the pullets from the stags? Keep in mind that they are only 3 1/2 weeks old.

I look at a few different things when trying to differentiate them, it isn't 100% but I am usually about 95%(if not more) correct on my birds even from an early age. I look at the comb developement as Lollipop said, I look at how they carry themselves (stags by the age you posted, and sometimes sooner will hold their head high, with an upright tail a lot of the times while pullets carry a more "horizontal" stance). I look at the size, and a lot of the time by this age you can look at the color too, about the only ones this doesn't work on is the blacks and whites because both sexes have the same colors. It will work on the ones you got from Bron though, talking with him it seems that the blacks with the most white are stags, and all of mine are starting to come a brown red/black red coloration so it makes it easy to tell. You should probably be able to tell by the size and maybe combs right now, I know the birds from Bron matured a lot faster than most of the birds I've raised. Must be the "big bird" blood.

Hi everyone, here is a pic of a Game cock I had about 15 years ago, at the time I didn't know what I had but I loved the color of him, I called him my Peanut butter colored Orange cock!!! LOL He was as I found out later a Pumpkin Hulsey and he was beautiful, unfortunately I never got to breed him as before I could find a hen I wanted to mate him to he got into a pen fight with a stag I had staked out to excecise and graze that pulled his stake, he died due to injuries. What a lose, BUT!!! I have a line on a trio of young one thanks to a fellow Game raiser from this forum!!! Thanks Chickenlover54!!!!!, Lynn

Thanks, Daniel. Here are some updated pictures. The first one is of all 12, roosting on the sharp edged top of the nest boxes (designed to avoid roosting

), and the rest of the pictures are from left to right. I'm hoping everyone can help me identify the type and the gender. Most are Brown Reds or Black Roundheads. A couple are Kelso X Sid taylors, one is a Hennie X Pyle blue, and one is an Aseel X American (don't know what kind).

The whole gang!

From left, is the first one the black roundhead and the second one the brown red, or do I have it backwards? Any gender guesses?

I believe the two on the left are Kelso X Sid Taylor. I'm guessing the one standing up is a boy. We've named him Little Caesar, and he's huge compared to all of the others. The one whose head you can just see to the right of Little Caesar is the Aseel cross. He's the only one. He's tiny in comparison, but already developing a bit of a comb as you can see.

a better shot of the Aseel cross.

I had to come from the other side to take this one. Like I said, I'm confused about the difference between the Black Roundheads and the Brown Reds, because this one is definitely brownish red, but it also has black skin.

I love this one's black and white beak

8.
12125_048.jpg
the last three. The one on the far left is the Hennie X Pyle blue, and I think the one on the right must be another Kelso cross. The middle one is once again subject to my black roundhead/brown red confusion.

Hope you like the pictures!

I don`t know what others are feeding, but I feed Purina Starter til they are 2 months, then it`s Purina Game Bird Blend from then on. Been doing it for years with great results. No fat and a big strong breast. Blend is 14% protein which is about right. Orientals should not have a high protein diet as they grow too fast. I had a Mong point out to me that they feed mostly rice in Asian countries and the birds were developed and maintained on low protein feed. Higher than 14%-16% ain`t good for them.
In So FL, most all the birds of Spanish blood are from Cuban (shorter legs) or Puerto Rican (longer legs) stock. They are all reffered to as "Spanish", until you start talking to a Hispanic cocker, who will call them by other names, commonly taken from breeders of a bloodline. Same thing with most any gamefowl. In Asils, names were originally taken from towns or regions where they were bred. Now, at least in the US, it`s the breeder, original importer, or somebodies whim. Get yourself that book by Horst Schmudde called "Oriental Gamefowl". Even though Horst is a premedonna, his book is the best available today. I think you can get it from Amazon. Don`t know of anything good in print for Spanish Games, but hang out at the feed store and talk to some Hispanic cockers. If you can convince them you aren`t a cop and win their trust, they are a world of information on the Spanish fowl. Good luck.......Pop

From what I can recall when I was over in Vietnam (now this was some 40 years ago) they fed their birds hulled rice, pork fat and ground fish including the bones and head. It really stunk and drew in flies from all over but it was fairly fresh, never rancid. I would say it had a good deal of protein but probably not near as high as 14% because of the rice.

You go toejam, keep us informed of the progress, I have a Red(Hatch???) setting on a dozen or so eggs, they should be out of her or a hen like her and my Spangled Toppy Cock, can't wait to see what comes out and see how many chicks have the dominant head crest!!!! Lynn

I should really post some pictures of the Thai stags that come into my barn to scratch around. We have a lots of Thai people working here & they smuggle eggs in from Thailand fairly often so while I was giving the calves some clover hay a few days ago, I peeked into the Thai's coop (they don't mind & their settlement is right next to me) & I saw some gamers. They've been letting them range lately so I've had them in with the calves picking through the feed. I don't mind.
