Show Off Your Games!

Stag hatched 28 July 2010 is what I believe to be a redquill. Getting to pose for camera was very difficult. Almost had some fun when he saw self in mirror. This guy and sister tamed for flight experiments. Will come when name is called and fly into hands.

Tail feathers short relative to his old man. Next year when in cock feathers he should be quite impressive. I am still trying to get lighting worked out for quality photographs. He looks fuzzy in this shot.

Thanks for the info and site. That's the site that I saw it on.

The cock in question is hatchery stock and I'm pretty sure Sumatra is in his make up.

He's just so beautiful. What do I do with him now? I have him in with a Shamo hen.

Did you get them from Ideal? I got some Shamo and Thai from them last year and was not impressed. Obviously mixed with non oriental at some point. Your bird may or may not have any Sumatra in him, his wattles might be smaller if he had a lot of Sumatra blood, but, who knows?

Looks like a large fowl Cornish (kinda similar to Buckeye's, or Chanteclers really) to me. Typical of hatchery Oriental's, I've seen a Shamo too from the hatchery that even had a tail at ( I think) a 45 degree angle, but looked very similar to your bird.

I agree with you about that "Thai" cockerel looking like a Cornish, I was thinking the same thing.

The hatchery Shamo cockerel I got looked like a peacombed Modern Game, the tail was held way too high. The Thai hen I got is for sure not pure Thai, but, at least that hen has the correct tail . I crossed a White Faced Spanish over a Dark Cornish last year, and that actually looked a lot like a Thai or Shamo, it very much resembled the" Thai" pictured.

Pure Thai or not, I do think that is a nice looking bird anyway, our "Shamo" was a nice looking bird in his own way, but, I still ended up eating him. It looks like you would have some potentially nice looking meaty "cornish" type birds if you crossed him over that Shamo hen. That's what I would do.

gallorojo,
Yes he's from ideal. Last year was the first time I ordered hatchery birds. I know everyone advised me not to. I just wanted to see if I might like them before I bought the more expensive birds.

Well I'm ready!! I want to get some real Thais! I want the best I can afford. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I know that most people sell adults in the Fall/Winter, some sell eggs, I've been down that road, but I will do it if that's all I can get. Only the hatcheries sell chicks! Anyone have a Trio to sell?

Daniel,
Thanks for the reply.
