Show Off Your Horses!

I never rode Mr Bill, never had the nerve to get up that high, so I don't know how his trot was to ride! lol My Dh and some of my friends did, though. He drove like a dream! The barn manager where we were boarding had a harness and a Meadowbrook cart and let us borrow it whenever we wanted. I really wish we could have found a small wagon or woods cart that we could afford, but I never did...and man, did I look! Every day for months I searched every auction site, sale barn, horse sale I could find, but never found one, so when it looked like the barn where we were boarding was going to have to close, I started looking for a new home for Mr. Bill. The other Belgian on here is so gorgeous!

It is a funny story about Bill...my DH bought him straight out of a six horse hitch pulling a breaking plow on an Amish farm. Picture 6 of these big guys hitched side by side! DH asked what one horses' name was, the guy said 'Big Bill', then asked what the next horses' name was, the guy said 'Little Bill', then asked about a 3rd horse, the guy said 'J. P. Bill'. DH asked what the J.P. stood for...just plain Bill! So DH ended up buying 'Just Plain Bill'! I said anything that massive had to have a more dignified name than just plain Bill, so I renamed him Mr. Bill! He was a trip! I think he may have been a cross with a Percheron or something due to the gray dapples he had on his legs and he had gray streaks in his mane, too. For quite a while whenever I was within arms reach of him, I couldn't take my eyes off those huge feet of his...I was scared to death he was going to step on me! lol

Great story about Bill. I can almost picture those 6 big Belgians hitched up. Must've been an awesome sight. Fred also comes from an Amish Farm, although we didn't purchase him directly from there. We've never hitched him up, but I would love to get a big beautiful buggy for him to pull. It's on my list.

For now, we're content to ride him. Great pics, Scbatz and Lockedhearts. Beautiful horses! That black stallion is to die for!
Here are a couple of pics from this weekend. Zoe was riding Queenie, who is a 37 year old Chincoteague pony. She was brought home from the island in 1974, according to the newspaper article we recently obtained. She was a great little barrel horse years ago, but is now living out the rest of her life in luxury-content to graze and snooze whenever she feels like it. We almost lost her last winter, when she injured her hip in a fall. We don't ride her anymore, but noticed Friday, when she got out of the pasture and kept us running after her for about an hour, that she was moving around quite well. So, we decided to saddle her up on Sunday for a ride in the round pen. They just walked for a bit, but it was so good to see Zoe on her back. And again, no helmet, but I wasn't home to supervise this time. Hubby forgets, so I have to keep reminding him. I guess he thinks with a horse like Queenie, there's no need to worry. But when it comes to my kids, we ALWAYS wear helmets when we ride. Ya never know...
