Show off your house ducks!

Interesting, Quackers has started jumping on my bed. I don't let her get off herself as I'm afraid she'll hurt herself, call me over protective Lol. I'm gonna start letting her get off on her own and try to have the camera ready. :p

Lol...I was the same way....but then one day Floki was like....Oh No....you're not walking out of this room without me!

Then just a few weeks ago she just jumps off when ever she wants, and would just wonder the house.....but mostly when she's telling me she's ready to go outside.

And as long as your bed isn't 6ft off the ground :) I'm sure she'll be ok....after a few jumps and a couple of slips, Floki isn't afraid to jump

Good luck....and I'd love to see that video, cuz it's heartwarming and will put a smile on your face

Aww, I wanna see that video too! As for me, I have a low platform bed so I don't think the effect quite works. But I gotta say I think it's so darn cute when they jump up onto something, since their feet go straight out! XD

I mean, I don't mind if she's a late bloomer, I plan to clip her wings anyhow. I just wanted her to at least know HOW to fly before I did that, you know?

How in the world did you get Floki to want to be outside? I've been trying to get Quackers use to being outside. Every time I put her outside she'll sit by the door telling me she wants back in. It's pretty funny because first she'll be by the front door then go to the back door and if she isn't let in she'll walk around the entire house chirping Lol. Getting her outside is a pain lol.

Today I'll let her get on the bed and try to get a video. Hopefully she'll let me, sometimes she can be camera shy other times a camera hog Lol.

I was thinking of clipping Quackers' wings as well. Even though I really don't want to. I just don't want her getting out of the yard. Our gate is only about 3 1/2 feet tall. Now that I'm thinking about how she can already jump into my bed at 9 weeks (my bed isn't too high. Just the box spring and mattress, no frame), even with her wings clipped do you guys think she'll still be able to jump and get onto the gate? She's a Muscovy.

With one wing clipped it should be fine. As for being outside...I don't know. Wobbles will only go out if I take her for a walk since she won't leave my side. Do you try to take her places? Wobs goes with me everywhere I go, to the fabric store, pet food market, supermarket even (I have a deal with the managers, if she's in her diaper AND carried in a crate she can come in). So I think that got her accustomed to being outdoors and around other people.

I have a hard time getting Misty to stay inside, but we spend a lot of time outside when it's nice, so she's been out with us everyday since she was little baby. She will spend hours outside by herself, foraging. We also take her to the river with us, camping with our boat on the lake, etc. she loves it all! The only store I've taken her to was the dollar store, holding her without a diaper, don't know what I was thinking, thankfully she didn't poop!

I have clipped both of Misty's wings and she can only get a foot or two off the ground for about six feet. She's a mallard, so she would be able to fly well without clipping. Clipping only one wing will cause them to fly erratically (we do it with our chickens). I think you would be safe clipping both wings if you want her to fly straight.

Floki loves being outside, but only if I'm with her.

I leave her sight for more then 30 seconds, she freaks and does this LOUD.....and I mean loud like quaking.

But that's our routine everyday.....get up anywhere from 0330 - 0530....she lays her egg and goes back to sleep for a bit then have breakfast.....and sleep a bit more, then around noon or so we go outside for lunch, when she's done a few hours later she comes and lays with me....we go inside for a nap and then around 1600 we go back outside for dinner. And when 1800 comes I put up her food....whatever she finds foraging is fine.....but having her on a feeding schedule is very helpful, cuz when it's bed time, she's empty....lol....kno what I mean.....yes she sleeps in the bed with us.....and it's awesome not waking up to a bed full of ducky poops.

We have our routine and she loves it....and if something comes up to were it's interrupted, oh she lets me kno how displeased she is. :)

But as far for her loving to be outside, like I said, I'm with her.....finding bugs and digging in the dirt and mud.....if I wasn't out there then, yeah, she'd be running from door to door around the house wanting back in.

Do you have a pool or anything that Quackers can play in?

Oh....and how's the jumping off the bed going?

Anyone!?

I've been going over older posts that ppl have put up and the problems they're having are just a few facts different then me.

Well Floki is a 5 1/2 months old Ancona, and she just started laying eggs the beginning of this month.

And that is when her diarrhea started......and oh man is it smelly!

Her diet hasn't changed, and neither has her behavior or health.

She's still her same ol self....no weight loss and still happy, loving and playful.

It's the worse in the morning, and that's when it shoots like a foot!

Then later in the day it's still runny, but not as bad or as smelly.

So has anyone else had this?

Is this cuz she started laying?

Any ideas?

Ducks naturally have very wet poops, depending on how much water they have drank. Misty often poops straight up water sometimes. Is it a brown chocolaty color? Or maybe yellow? It could just be "cecal" poop or what some people call "sevens" because about every seven poop is one, they smell horrible! I'm not even sure what duck diarrhea would look like, all of their poop looks like it! There is a huge range of what normal duck poop looks like, I've heard neon yellow is what you need to worry about.
