Show off your house ducks!

Maybe you can work out some sort of deal with the local TSC to give the ducklings to them? That will be soooo cute with the little ducklings at the vet! Why do you have to keep wobbles seperate? I once had a silkie rooster raise a brood of his own chicks? Maybe you and wobbles can both be parents? Maybe wobbles will think that after all this mating with you, you have finally layed eggs and hatched them out? lol.

Well, even though I'm his "mate" and I'll be raising ducklings soon, that doesn't necessarily mean Wobs will put 2 and 2 together and think that they're his. Drakes don't usually help raise ducklings anyhow, so I'm not too hopeful. It's best if I try to keep him away from the brooder, for the babies' sakes. Although it would be amazing if he treated these ducklings as his own! How cool would that be? :p

That would be amazing!!!

But are oh so precious when they play tag and go running back and forth across the house for fun (the noise from those little feet!!) I'm considering night time summer housing for the saxonies as part of the multiple grow out pen/specialized housing build I'm getting ready for in the garage. (If my husband is lucky, I'll let him keep the tractor in there but I have pretty much claimed it in the name of all things bird related) It's going to be a busy spring!!!

Yes, the little foot noises, YES! Nothing is cuter than that "flup flup flup" when they skitter across the linoleum! This guy knows what I'm talking about:

As for housing, have you tried craigslist? I'm sure you can find a nice large dog crate for cheap. Hils and I are working on building an indoor enclosure for the house ducks for when I reroll in school and have to leave them alone for a few hours, but so far all we've got is a living room full of raw materials. /sheepish

OMG that video says it all!! The audio got the downy half dozen awake and talking too! I love craigslist. I got a really nice dogloo that I put in the aviary for the pheasants as shelter #4 for really cheap! It was claimed by a single quail rooster, who looks hilariously tiny defending it... The beautiful engineered hardwood floor in the family room that despite being covered with drop cloths gets trashed by the downy half dozen daily: free on craigslist. The marble tiles in the entryways of the same room that are easy to clean but never get pooped on (of course): craigslist, for less than $1 a square foot. The pallets I used to frame the run in shed and the exterior plywood I sheathed it in: free, on craigslist. The out of manufacture ikea shelving units that I used to decorate said family room: craigslist, obscenely cheap. Craigslist is a magical place, as long as you don't look in the "wanted" section because then it gets all weird and creepy. When I came out from hiding in the corner after looking at that section, I swore never to go there again and to stay with the safe sections of Free Stuff, Furniture, Materials, and Farm and Garden...

Oh man, any chance you can get a video of Mr. Quail strutting around in front of his giant dogloo? That's simply priceless!

Yeah the wanted section is weird... I once saw a wanted for a 300lb stuffed gorilla? Do they even make those?

So most of you guys have female house ducks, right? I've spent most of the day wondering what this new little duck's personality will be like. I don't have the slightest clue what to expect. I know I kinda won the character lottery with lil' Wobbles, there's no way lightning could strike twice, could it? I know females tend to be mellower, will she be a demure little snugglebug, or will she be as bombastic little turd like Wobs? :p

Misty isn't into snuggling unfortunately. :( I think she's just a little more independent than most house ducks though. Although she is pretty quiet, surprisingly. She only ever quacks if she doesn't know where I am. She is a very sassy little duck that doesn't take crap form no one! Chases the cat around, nips the dogs toes, hisses at my rats through their cage, my snake is about the only thing she won't mess with! She even swam up to a wild mallard and started fighting with her, she is no longer allowed to swim without a leash!
