Show off your house ducks!

x2. Omgosh. She a little torpedo call duck of cuteness. She a powerful little web feeted swimmer.

I know! Her little legs are so powerful, but she doesn't really know how to control it, so as a result she tends to run right into things. :p

Precious precious innocent little pheasant that wants to be held. Sweet little warm being. And then Missy. She is rad with her powerful personality and moods and actions. I could easily be in love with her. Again we go into the intelligent realm of this wonderful bird.

I know, right? Missy's the best!

I wil have bantom house ducks avalible in Montana, North Dakota and minnasota next week and the week after that as I travel to and from minnasota from Bozeman mt.

They are Australians spotteds from Holderread waterfowl farm. Just letting anyone know who might have been looking for a smaller duck that wasn't a call duck and "mouthy" :).

I bet even on land she can outrun Wobbles then.

Yes, Missy is. Her antics make me laugh and are touching.

Geese are super smart, way more than anyone gives them credit for. They've shown to have long-term memory and have problem solving skills, and I suspect that's the reason why geese, even wild geese, will raise goslings that aren't their own no matter how old they are. I think deep down they recognize "hey, this little tyke needs a mama!" or something. It's really sweet. That's how we released Chub-Chub before, we found some fellow Canada geese that had babies and they took him right in <3
That is what i am learning here and it is amazing about their intelligence and I didn't know geese raised other goslings. Was Chub-Chub a rescue you found and then released to the Canadien geese? Sounds like an awesome outcome.

Yep! Three years ago I stopped a heron attacking a family of geese. He got one gosling, and the parents didn't know I snatched up the other so they flew off! Looking back I feel bad for intervening, but I didn't want it to eat both of them. :/ I took the little guy back to my house, named it Chub-Chub and looked after it until I could either find another goose family or get him to a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Since there's a lake behind my house it didn't take long to find another goose family, and they took Chubs right in (I think they may even have been the original parents since there were 4 of them and 2 didn't have any babies but looked VERY happy when Chubs began to peep!). I fell in love with him so much that it made me want to get a house duck, and here I am!

Here she is last weekend watching a lecture on the duality of the universe.

She lasted about 15 minutes before climbing into my lap and falling asleep...

Pale girl is walking with a light limp now. I'm hoping to pull her bandage at the end of the week!!!
She is just to die for!!!! What a cutie!

Oh my word, Amykins. That is such an awesome story. I don't blame you for intervening. I would have too. I know predator birds have to eat but it makes me sad to see them predate on other birds. Little Chub-Chub deserved to be saved and it's cool he got back together with his probable parents. It is amazing how serendipitous things are cuz not only do you have one house duck but now two and we on BYC on this and several other threads are entertained by your tales of Wobbles and Bean.

Woke up to the pheasant chick yelling. Not unusual, they are noisy, to the point where they chirp in their sleep. He had a reason though. Hermes the cat had squeezed into the brooder bucket and was sitting inside with him. Hermes LOVES baby birds. He likes to cuddle them and sit with them and roll around next to them. Baby pheasant is half the size of a golf ball though, and Hermes is a giant kitten. Poor little guy was in a panic. Hermes was waiting for him to run up and snuggle like most chicks do, and a Mexican standoff arose out of the misunderstanding. I let him cuddle with me for the past hour, but now have to run errands, so he's got to go back and be confined in the incubator room while I'm gone. Locking him in means Missy won't have access to her bed, but she goes and hangs out with my mother during the day eats in the kitchen anyway. Perhaps I'll just take her along for the ride...
The pekin and moulard bunch are unzipping, so I'll need another brooder up by the time I get back home.... Ah, the joyful chaos of spring..,,

A tiny pheasant chick yelling is a cute notion. How does Hermes know not to eat baby birds? Did little pheasant baby calm down after you held him? Where does Missy sit in the car when you take her for rides? Can you take her inside the places where you run your errands?

Another chaotic weekend. Our oldest queen, Ko, was trampled by a horse and killed. She was the best flock guard I had, and the most intuitive. She kept the birds in that got past Narcissus, and would patrol the property, deterring predators. She didn't have enough time to properly train a replacement, as the kittens had just gotten spayed and neutered and were just taking their first runs outside. I now have to pay closer eyes on the birds, as my husband is afraid to let anyone out now.

Missy is learning that outside can be good. She won't go anywhere near the back where the rest of the birds are, but she will sit out front with me while the easter egger chicks play in their playpen outside (It's too nice for them to spend the day in the growout pen - but they are a bit too small to be out on their own) She sticks close, but samples the grass and finds the best rocks she can for her crop. She likes it enough that she claimed the front patio door as her own. The kittens like to look out of it and climb on the screen. She drives them off so that she can sit inside on the cool entryway tile watching the world go by from the safety of the incubator room.

Missy shows off her best show quality pose, in front of her matching car,,,,

Pale girl, while still lame, is keeping up with the flock for the most part now. Her buddies are giving her less constant supervision, which is a good sign!

First pheasant of the season hatched today!

I left mom and Missy home alone for the entire day yesterday, and came home to find that the house was still intact! Woo hoo! While out at the range, I was given a battle name and a name tab:

Guess which one is mine.....
I am sorry about Ko. What a blessed being for her service as a wonderful flock guard.

Missy is so keyoot in profile in the foreground of her likeness the Jeep.
