Show off your house ducks!

No way, me too! Whereabouts in CA? I'm visiting family in Santa Rosa, way up near Sonoma. As for your finchies, do you have anyone to come in and check on them and clean their cages for you? You may have trouble bringing them even if you do decide to bring 'em along; I can't find one single airline that'll allow my ducks on board. Yet I've seen pigs on planes. Go figure.
Dude! You're gonna be so close to me! When are you coming out??

[/quoteI am driving to Pleasant Hill which is 30 miles east of SF. As for my finchies I would, if I decide to bring them, would be put in a smaller cage which I'd put in a box to stabilize it and I'd use one of those water tube thingies. Then I'd also load their bigger cage for them to be placed back into once I am down there. I know it's a lot of trouble but I love them and don't wanna be away from them. Usually a friend comes over and takes care of their food, water and cleaning. Uhgh. On the other hand it may be a stupid idea traveling with them in a car for 8 hrs. I don't wanna stress them out.

Ironically I have never been to Santa Rosa. It sounds beautiful there near Sonoma. You are gonna have a wonderful time. Pigs on planes? That's hysterical. Wow. Like pot bellied size or farm size?

Not quite, Santa Rosa's still about an hour and a half west of Sacramento. Not close enough for me to pop in for a visit, sadly. :/ Real shame, I REALLY wanna meet the lil' scovy baby! ...Still, kinda awesome that the three of us are gonna be within an hour of each other. Maybe we could meet in the middle somewhere?

I fly in on Thursday morning and leave Tuesday the 14th. I'm still so nervous about boarding the duckies!

If we could meet in the middle somewhere that would be so rad. I drive over on the 11th, Saturday and stay until the following Saturday. It is amazing we're all in such close proximity. Let's think about it. No pressure though.

I understand you being nervous about boarding Beables. Ugh. Hate leaving birds behind. Worry worry worry.

Silly duckies.

I'm leaving today. Julie, Scovy, do you two lovely ladies want to PM me your email addy or something just in case you wanna meet up?

Have any of you raised a brood indoors? ChaCha is DETERMINED to hatch SOMETHING. It's cute, she's not a mean broody (of course she also thinks I'm her drake so that probably helps). But I can't decide what to do! I have nothing against letting her hatch and raise babies (or one... maybe just one lol) I'm just not sure if I want to let her do it indoors. I can have everybody diapered no problem, but I'm trying to figure out a food and water set up and how to set up a living area. ChaCha usually just goes wherever I am when I'm home (except right now, she's glued to her "nest") and either outside to her ducky run or in her crate when I'm not home. But I'm not sure I'm comfortable letting babies just wander the house with momma, especially with the dogs who are aggressive with ChaCha and could very possibly eat baby ducks.
Has anyone let their house duck raise a brood indoors? What was your experience?

I did not have a house duck, but I had my own brood of eleven day-olds. I had a spare bedroom - and I set up a brooder using puppy play pens, 6 mil plastic to protect the floor, and towels.

The water management was about 70% - with what I know now, I'd make a watering station like I have in the basement pen, with mods for little ducklings instead of just the big water pot I use for adults.

Due to a mixup, my ducklings arrived a month early, and it was a late spring, and they were indoors for three months. Yup. Three solid months. I covered the hallway in an old sheet and herded everyone out into the hallway (blocked the cats from the hallway during this time) while I did room service. It was work, but I knew it was not forever, and I have fun memories.
