Show off your house ducks!

When I clip I squat down over them from the back hold their body between my knees and pull out the wing I am clipping, for me since I am left handed I always clip the left wing.

@Miss Lydia
I found him around 5 months ago and going by pics I saw online, he might have been 5-7 days old at the time.
I'm not really sure about his/her gender either lol
My porch has roof so it provides shade and he seems to like it. I also bought him an inflatable pool that is in the porch too but he hates it.
I think he might be feeling lonely and I also notice he liked mirrors. He goes in to my bathroom and stares at himself for hours lol
once again thank you so much for your time and help. It means the world to me.
I'm attaching pics of the day I found him and today

I think he knows he did something wrong because he doesn't want to leave my side lol
OH! She looks female! She has the pretty little girl face!

My scovy were indoors but would come outside when I was in the yard. I never had them fly though. Daisy didn't learn to (not for not trying to teach her) & would always rather walk around everywhere & Dandy was rather lazy & wanted to just hang out pretty much near me. I did clip both wings on them but that was mostly so they would fit in their carrier or in Daisy's case the back pack I carried her around in all the time. I only clipped the longest wing tips with a dog nail clipper as close to the "root" as I could & it didn't even look clipped when they were folded, just shorter against the body.
If you are having her out during the day, are you able to have her in a dog run or something covered? Neighbor dogs & cars in the street tend to like to take out pretty duckies, hun.

MARSHMALLOW! I love it! In Wobblenews, I have an electrician over at the house today, and Wobbles is fascinated by him. I thought for sure when the stinker scrambled through my legs and out of the bedroom that he'd charge the guy, but nope! He just stands and cocks his head at him, inspecting every little thing he does. Such a curious birb!
That's SO CUTE! How funny that he forgot he doesn't like people LOL I feel like if ChaCha could figure out she's a duck, she and Wobs would be buddies. I think we all need to plan our own little village of house duck owners. I picture all our ducks looking at the window across the street and quacking like dogs informing their neighborhood buddies that "there's a person! They is a PERSON on the sidewalk. Pass it on!"
I love you kukupecpec. You're awesome. Fiddlesticks is sooo cute.
Thank you! I am having WAY too much fun with this stuffed bird. ChaCha is NOT amused lol
Momma loves her big boy, Dandelion River So this morning my big boy went to his new home at the animal rental ranch. They have many more duckies that he can befriend & mount & be a good little boy. I miss him but he needed more than I could give him & I had to look out for everyone else in the house. My mom says just to be happy for him & don't let it hurt me so much. Didn't help, but at least she tried.:hit Hey, maybe he'll be a movie star... He was getting more aggressive with nipping & stalking the others in the house. He would put his head down & walk up on the cat & grab her tail or go for the face. He nipped the dogs' face repeatedly the last couple of weeks & it's not right that they fear this one when they were all comfortable with Daisy for years. I always watch them when they are in close proximity but it was getting to the point where I had to separate them all from Dandy for their safety. Although I know all muscovy aren't the same personality, he was good with them, kind of like Daisy, until about a month ago, then he would go for everyone's face. My roommate was nipped then bit anytime he tried to keep Dandy away from any other pet. I was the only safe one that never saw the bad end of Dandy until he clawed me up & bit at my eye when I took him away from trying to mount the cat. He was loving afterward but he'd just get wound up so much, it was like it wasn't my duck anymore for a bit until he'd calm down. I asked if I could go visit the rental ranch & they haven't gotten back to me about that yet. I'm kinda raw right now on getting another one but I have been kickig around the idea of maybe hatching out a couple & raising them then as soon as I can tell a female keep her & finding good homes for the rest. I do wish there was a need for hand tamed ducks then I could raise them for that like how I foster the dogs & cats.:D that might be fun! That helps, thank you hun. I just have to remember I did right by him. I confuse the "feeling bad" with the idea that maybe I didn't do something right when it's just missing him. Thanks sweets, I hope I did right. She's very well & very silly! Hope to be able to tell if it's a she or he soon.:) Too bad this whole time I've been serious :rant ...:gig Riiiiiight...
He will be missed by us all here! But we all know you did right by him! How lucky for him that you love him enough to let him move away, I know that had to be terribly difficult. You sound just like a momma empty nesting, but you let him "grow up" into the best ducky version of himself, even though that meant he had to leave you =) you are an AWESOME ducky momma! NOW. Your serama is killing me! SO DANG CUTE. If he is a HE there shouldn't be any trouble. Often males are the *most* snuggly, and they are flock masters, so if your other pets can ignore a manly mini roo stance and dance he should love everyone just great! Don't decide on his gender until he crows or grows saddle feathers! I have had a LOT of baby serama with suuuuper bright red combs and wattles that are definitely larger than their siblings, and STILL be girls lol. They are tricksters!

LouLou wanted to drop in and say hello! Also, now that she's a grownup birb, perhaps @kukupecpeccan diaper her poopin behind.... Something in turquoise maybe..?!?!
LouLou is so pretty!!! I love that color. I think it makes them look more like a stuffed animal (begging to be snuggled of course). Shoot me a message to talk diapers! I have a new solid color teal just in time!
:love ahhh soo many cute duckies since I've been on last! Ohh how I miss the duckling days... now the babies like to drive me coo coo for coco puffs.. but I love them. OMGGGG SAMMII... That snow white costume... AHHHHHH I HAVE TO HAVE ONEEE LOL definitely would make nice auction items, if not as an all the time thing. lol And don't worry Amy, Bean will lay her eggs.. it'll be worth the wait.. I know with me, as much as I'm looking forward to Cookie laying, I'm terrified of egg bound.. so I am kind of dreading it at the same time. I can't even think of something happening. At least shes got the eyes for wobz now, and getting used to the whole love making thing hahahaha and who knows, maybe the first egg will be a lucky one ;) lol
Thanks! I'm still working on Maleficent and Ursula, but all the princesses are done! Only had time to photograph Belle and Tiana Tiana

Hello my name is Diana, I've Been lurking around this forum for a while now
263a.png
Around 5 months ago, I found a duckling in a very busy mall parking lot. He almost got ran over by several cars. He was very small and after looking for his family for about 2 hours to no avail, I took him home and he has been with me since. I know nothing about ducks, I don't even have pets but you guys have been my lifeline
2764.png
I tried to follow as many tips from you guys as I could. My sweet one seems to be healthy and thriving (he/she is a Muscovy) but I need advice guys: Up until around a month ago, he would spend most of the day inside the house and a few hours in the back yard. While on the back yard he would swim in the pool and walk around the grass a bit and then come back inside. If I had to leave for work, he would be on the back yard for around 4-5 hours until I come back home to let him in. The issue started around 3 weeks ago since he learnt to fly. He wants to spend more hours outside (which is fine with me
1f614.png
) but now he is flying away. He had done it 3 times and I'm afraid he might get hurt by a predator or some evil person out there. I can't keep inside the house all day since I have to work and now I'm worried and stressed out thinking that I will be back home and he will be gone or hurt. How do guys handle your ducks when the start to fly? Do you know if there is GPS that I can buy for him?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. @Miss Lydia thank you so very much for taking the time to answer and for providing the instructions

I love him very much

I have to be honest
1f633.png
I'm somewhat hesitant to clip his wings because I feel it might be cruel on my part to do that to him

I have this image on my head of somebody grabbing me and breaking my arms

I guess I'll have to do it

Glad to see you join in! I haven't seen updated pics of your ducky! What a cutie! I'm SO glad to hear he's doing well, he had such a sad start. ChaCha spends her daytime outside with the chickens, but they are all completely enclosed to protect from both escape and predators. Is it possible to set him up achainilink dog run? Or even a fenced area worth bird netting on top? I'm sure he lives the freedom of hanging out outside, so it sounds like the best would be too set him up an enclosed daytime living area even if you are able to clip his wings. I'd hate to see him get eaten by something =(

Nope they don't stop once adults. Drakes sometimes but not always. depending on weight.
Sorry want trying to misinform...But I figured someone with muscovies would weigh in...I only had to clip my KCs once them they fattened up...now when I call them for treats they will fly across from wherever they are only high enough that their webbed feet drag the ground...totally funny.

Silly Cha Cha needs to understand that that stuffy is no where near as beautiful as she is!

Thanks, sweetheart! That means a lot.

I miss my Dandelion River...

Thanks! I think she/he is super cute but I might just be a bit biased
lol.png
I decided to name her/him after my favorite poet: Poe
smile.png
I have one lone egg that is due on Halloween so we will see what that one's name will be. I have been thinking a female because there's no red comb & waddles yet but I will just keep calling it him or her just to be safe and/or confuse the little thing

I know I've said it before but WOWzerz! You are so dang talented! Keep on sewing on, babe!

@ILOVEMYDUCKLING great idea about the dog kennel and cover over top to keep your lil one from flying off but I'd still clip a wing just to make sure when she is running loose in the back yard she doesn't take flight.

Sorry Ladies for taking over this thread when I only have part time house duck, Just got me going since I have seen alot of heartbreaking stories about losing them from flying off.
