Show off your lead hen! :)

very pretty hens... what color is lotus? I never seen that petty color before

Thank you! To be honest, I have no idea! Since Easter Eggers are just mixes, they don't really have "official names" for their colors. I've only seen some that are really similar to Lotus, never any that are identical! She had "partridge" coloring on some of her feathers though when she was growing up. I think she still has, but it's not as prominent. I wouldn't call her partridge colored though.

Here's how she started... (I swear, I am not holding her by the neck, she's standing on my hand. LOL)

Changing a bit... brownish still... she was so ugly at this stage!

Gray with some orange/brown on wings...

Head lightened up a bit, not as "solid black".. white on neck turned dark gray with black outline.

RIGHT before she started laying (above pic is slightly before the below one)
Shows colors better than the first pic you saw and the pic below.

(Now that she's laying she looks like she is wearing makeup haha!)

Sorry, I love showing off my girls ;)

so far, our top girl is Pumpkin, our 4 month old Red Sussex. she is turning 5 months very soon!!!! (besides our bossy rooster, Pumpkin is the most bossy hen, although she gets picked on by my roo.)

when pumpkin was hatched by our black astralorps, we had two hens who were broody, and would try to steal the eggs from each other. once pumpkin hatched, the other broody chicken came to see her, and the hatching mom pecked her head on both sides, on her ears, attempting to kill her so the other mom could not take her.

we instantly took pumpkin in to out little 'icu' brooder, and fed her propel to give her strength to live. we would clean out her wounds every day, and put Neosporin on them.

after pumpkin was about two months old, her wounds were healed, but she began to develop a lump, which was her deformed ear because of pecking. her lumps grew outside her head, one bulge being bigger than the other. she is sensitive when you touch it, but it is soft if you do. We do think pumpkin is deaf, and she does get picked on by our roo, but she seems to be just as strong as the other chickens, and is very dominant!!!
Because she had her ear defects, she cannot be entered into the fair, but a chicken is a chicken, and still lays eggs. to us, she is no different than any other chicken. Pumpkin is super sweet and means so much to us!

that's really interesting and cool to know. thanks for telling me and don't worry about that... I enjoy looking at chickens pictures.. I have around 400 pictures of my chickens of course different chickens over the last 7 years lol. I had 98 chickens at one time but sadly when I move I had to sell/give them away but I still have 4 hens left out of 98... maybe some time I could upload some pictures.
