Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

Pics
The male crele chicks will be a cream to blueish color. The female crele will have a very dark eye stripe and dark stripes down the back. Very easy as day olds.

I'm going to be putting some BB Red eggs in the 'bator this weekend, and I was thinking the same thing.... I know I've heard that a trained eye can tell the males from the females when they hatch, for the BB Reds, is it that the females have darker distinct stripes, and the males' stripes are more blurred?

My kids will be showing our cockerels at a local show on the 16th. Im excited to see how they do! They cockerels are young (barely 6 months) and we haven't dubbed them yet, probably after this show would be a good time. I don't think I have the stomach to do the dubbing. Hopefully I can find someone who can for me!

So California anyone??

I've been told between 4 months to 12 months old, I think I've also heard that doing it in the evening is a good idea, so the bird rests, and recuperates overnight.

I think anytime of the year is okay, just make sure to keep flies and stuff off while they heal.

Of course, I"m not the resident expert here!! Just a newbie myself, that has asked the same questions.

The sexing of the BBReds is very easy. No training needed. LOL Good luck at your show and finding someone to do the dubbing.

The BEST time to dub them (if possible) is when the weather is cooler. The warmer the thinner the blood and easier flow.Cooler weather causes the blood flow to slow. You can actually tell by their combs and feet. It's better when the blood carries more in the legs and the comb is paler(not sickly!! just less blood flow). If you trim in warm weather try icing it a lil before you start the cut.It will slow the flow. Then add a bit of a blood stop.It will not completely stop the bleeding, but will help.Try to pen seperately so no other birds pick at it.Watch the flies and mosquitoes also.I made the mistake of dubbing some last year when it warmed up and ended up with quite a few get pox from the influx of skeeters afterward, drawn by the blood.

Here is "ducky" My Silver Duckwing OEGB. He's been fighting through the fence with the new B.B. Red.
