In lemon blues and brown reds it's not so subtle. I've not raised enough lemon blacks to say how much they're different from the brown reds, but this particular lemon black is prettier than any brown red pullet I've seen.

She is pretty! Her color, the sheen on her body, and even her eyes are extremely nice. Do you still have the parents?

I do. You can tell she's good even from a distance. She's just well put together. She has a little shafting under her wings, but that's the only thing I can fault her on, and I'm hoping that improves when she molts. Probably going to breed her to a brown red roo first, then to a lemon blue. The lemon blue mating should give me 50% lemon blacks.

Say a prayer and make sure he's secured (swaddled) and keep a steady hand. Do it as quickly as your skill will allow but don't rush. You wouldn't want to have to go back and do it over to correct mistakes. The comb already has the line in it for a guide. The wattles are much simpler to cut. Are you trimming the lobes? Haven't started had to go out of town but I'm kinda nervous and yes you have to the earlobes for showing

Wrap him up tight, be careful to take the wattles and earlobes as single pieces (try and not run your cuts together). Zip tie his legs together. I like to turn my birds on their back as it seems to calm them, and cut from the bottom so I can see. Be brave, make solid cuts and no matter how he looks, he's not going to die. Take your time and do it right. Paper towels are good to dab the blood away.

No matter how bad the cuts look on his throat, it will heal. My first one looked like Jack the Ripper had gotten a hold of him.
