Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

I hatched them out of a blue cock I purchased at a show, and a cuckoo hen I purchased from a breeder. So I guess they could have almost any color in their genetics. :p

Well, I'm not one to be able to answer if you should show him or not, but I think they'd make a great project... if you are interested in that kind of thing... but I'm also very partial to lemon blues, lol... :p

Quote: I think they are gorgeous. I hope to get a solid breeding pair or trio sometime, and add her to the mix. I think I am going to show the cockerel. It's a small show, and I just want the judge's opinion.

Then go for it! I don't see the harm in trying and getting a working professionals opinion... :D
I'm still trying to get a nice cockerel for mine, lol... been trying to get lemon blues/brown reds and all I end up with is pullets in those colors...

He's pretty relaxed in these photos. Also, he's still very young, so I haven't dubbed him yet.

He's a good looking guy. I don't know much about cuckoos, but he appears to be one to me, just a little dark. With that pullet in the same batch, I'd bet there's some lemon blue in there somewhere. He carries his wings really well, his tail is well spread. Find a copy of the standard, and judge him yourself against it. He looks like he would throw really nice hens, if mated with the right bird, maybe a really light cuckoo hen. I don't know that lemon cuckoo is a standard variety, but you may be onto something with that as well.

If you're planning on dubbing him, I would do it now.

He's definitely a great project bird, and I really like projects, lol. I breed lemon blues. I hatched a chick off yesterday (only lemon blue egg in my incubator) that is gorgeous. Skin is so dark it looks like a silkies.

I love my OEGB's, but there is just something special to me about the lemon blues... so of course I gotta have a hard time getting a good base, lol... this is one of my babies who thinks she is a call duck, lol...

I lucked into a quad last year, and I had a lemon blue splash hen. Waited a year for any of them to lay an egg. When they finally started laying, they got with it. I have 20 or so eggs in my incubators right now. The chick that hatched yesterday looks like a splash to me. What do you think?

Good luck. Keep us posted with how it turns out, and I'd be interested in what happens down the road as you breed him.

Does to me too, or aren't splashes called sports in OEGB's? I'm still learning, lol...
Sweet looking little cutie...
I lucked out on getting a large breeding group of self blues, 8 hens and 3 cocks... having issues hatching them tho... how is your luck at hatching OEGB's?
