I didn't have anything back then only a written guide. I've seen at least one good video on YouTube that takes you through the entire process and shows you what to expect. It's traumatic for the Cockrell no doubt but it's amazing how quickly they recover.
Chickens have a "tonic immobility" type reflex. Stimuli like dubbing induces it. They'll look dead, but pop right up.

I decided to wait a little longer, and now I'm growing out a really cute cuckoo OEGB pullet.She's looking pretty nice, and I hope to continue breeding toward a nicer cuckoo for awhile longer.
