Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

I'm looking for some, and lol

Mine are supposed to be dominant whites, but I've not tested that out yet. Dom white covers everything but red, allowing you to make pyles. Recessive white covers everything. Too bad you don't live somewhere close. I know a guy that breeds, and wins at shows, with whites.

Have you noticed any difference in the personalities based on color? For example, some people believe there are behavior characteristics associated with black Labrador retrievers versus chocolates and yellows.

I think there are differences, but I don't know how much can be attributed to genetics vs rearing. I think undesirable tendencies can be overcome with a little love and a lot of handling. You have to start early. Once they are older, it's hard to break bad habits.

My blue brassybacks are the friendliest birds. They seek me out when they see me. They all start making sounds that remind me of the raptors from Jurassic Park.

Blacks are inquisitive and protective. I talk to mine when I go into their cage. I have a black rooster that I got as an adult that is the spawn of satan. He'd be dangerous if he was bigger.

Silver Duckwings tend to get aggressive as they get older, or go into a breeding pen.

My whites are extremely docile, like they're above all the chicken nonsense.

I think any bird can be great if you start early, show them some love, tell them how handsome they are and provide positive reinforcement. Mine love it when I straighten all their feathers for them. Really calms them like a drug.

That's is a great description of the whites I had, too. The rooster was a perfect gentleman. He was attentive to his mate and very gentle towards people. The hen was my favorite bird of all and that's been about 15+ years ago. She would walk into my hand and ride on my shoulder while I worked in the yard. She was the boss hen, though, and grazed with large breeds who yielded to her. I've kept BO, RIR, Cornish, EE, BSL, Japanese, SLW, in the past and I think, overall, OEGB are my favorite breed.

I really like my whites, but I may sell them in the spring. I only have so much space to go around, and I'm at capacity. They are wonderful birds though.

I've had several favorites, but the one I loved most was a hatchery bred BBR. He was too big for showing, but he was just an incredible bird. Lost him last year after he got sick and down. Didn't have the heart to cull him, so I fed and watered him every day by hand. He eventually died, and he's the only rooster buried out with my cats and dogs.

I had a BBR, too. He wasn't sold at the feed store a friend of mine owned so I took him home. He was my first "dub" and turned out to be a handsome little rooster.

I don't buy hatchery birds anymore, at least not OEGBs, but I've sure raised some with great personalities. They're a great way to get into it without spending a lot of money.
