@Jophus what the SOP for OEGB? Anything I should be checking on my trio?

It varies for each color. It's pretty specific, and lists defects and disqualifications. If you want to show, you need to learn to condition your birds for show. I've got some info somewhere I'll share with you. Feathers need to be in good shape. A well-conditioned OEGB should be hard with just a little give to its flesh. Like a piece of cork. My white roo stays in good condition year round, but he's the only bird I have that does so without any effort on my part.

:lau
So I know you don't show is that why you don't dub?

I like growers, not showers

Seriously, I like the natural big combs on these little birds. Never understood the purpose of dubbing.
Its probably in this thread somewhere and I've watched videos of it being done, I just dont think I could ever do it. Maybe if I do more research, I might think differently.

Believe it or not, as tender hearted as I am, I've done it a time or two. I'm guessing it goes back to pit fighting history. I love the dubbed look. I swear it changes the cock's demeanor, too. It's probably all in my head but it seems to make them more cocky. Head upright and breast out. They recover so quickly it's amazing.

Goes back to the pit days, but OEGB are dubbed differently, leaving a lot more comb intact. Once you get comfortable with your cuts, they seem to tolerate it just fine. I think in a lot of cases the Roos bond a little closer to me after we go through that together. They do seem proud once it's done. I've seen Roos that seemed unimpressive get dubbed and be stunners.
