I sewed some privacy curtains to discourage the girls from sleeping in the nestboxes..much cleaner eggs now!

I bought the fabric from Walmart! They actually had three different chicken patterns and it was so hard to choose! As for making the actual curtains, a friend actually made them. I just provided the materials. I’m not good at sewing in a straight line lol

That's a different issue...roosts higher than nests and/or block nests an hour before roost time, unblock after dark when you lock up.

I ended up using nest box curtains because every time I went in to clean the coop or grab the feed bucket, the girls acted like I barged in on their bathroom stall. They’d end up leaving their nest box in a huff. The curtains did seem to help with that behavior, but after six months or so some of the curtains covering the boxes were torn and removed. The girls started using the boxes without curtains, so I took them all down. I agree it doesn’t seem to make any significant difference. The window curtains are still present. As silly as it seems to beautify the coop, I had less than $10 in the entire expense

Mine are pretty used to me coming in the coop and even opening the back access to nests.

At the time mine were young layers so maybe time was what fixed the issue after all!
