Most medicated starter feeds contain the medication amprollium. Amprollium does not *treat* coccidiosis, but it helps the babies develop their own immunity. It will only get into the eggs if fed to adults who are laying. It does not get into the eggs when fed to chicks. I feed my chicks the medicated chick starter for their first few weeks when they are most susceptible to cocci then I switch them over to grower pellets. If grower is not available then my next choice would be game bird feed which is higher in protein while they are growing. I have used game bird when I couldn't get the grower feed.
yep I agree with you I ment to say when fed to hens that are laying I fed it to mine up until they where 8 weeks old some people do not believe in using the medicated feed but i do at least for the first few months. When they went thru 50 pounds of feed they where i weeks so i thought they are old enough for just grower feed and I thought game bird feed was a good choice if no grower feed is available as you are right high in protein this is a much meeded nuitrent for growth if young

When the chicks are in the chick coop they are fed the chick crumbles. I just moved my older 8 week old chicks out with the big birds into their coop, they are now on the grower pellets. Tomorrow the older chicks will be able to go outside into their new pens. I kept them in their coops over the weekend so they could get used to their coops. The younger chicks in the chick coop have pens too so they will get to go out into their pens also. The chick coop doesn't have roosts but the grow-out coop does. It's like a playground for the older chicks.

My comet does the same thing. She'll jump on my dogs' backs, peck their noses, investigate toys that they are chewing on, she's a menace! They don't quite understand what she's up to so they tuck tail and saunter off. Great dogs.

I was in doubt to what breed chicks i just purchased, but after looking at the form i'm sure they are Red sex-links

What do you think.. Red sex-links or not ???
