ugh, so (I am guessing) one of my RSL's left another soft shell! I am getting regular eggs for atleast one RSL the other brown egg could be from my Sussex. don't mind the poop, as she decided to lay on the poop bar. But is this normal? First time chciken owner. I just started giving free choice oyster shells yesterday.



Also Nugger (the one layign in rabbit hutch) gave me a Two double yolks in past 2 days And both fertilized! go pox!

I have had a few soft shells over the years too. Free choice oyster shells is a must for them. Mine have them, and I have still had a soft shelled egg here and there few times a year. keep an eye on her to make sure something else is not going on too.

Congrats on the double yolker! it's so cool to get one. I did for the first 2 years my girls laid eggs. I always hoped for a triple, but never got one.

In the pst 10 days I have gotten 4 soft shells like this, although I cant say it;s from the same hen or not. we have 2 reglar laying hennsso thats 5 hens who arent laying regular yet so could be any of them

hmmmmm. You might want to do a search on here for soft shelled eggs. I have never gotten that many all at once.

we didn't get any today so hopefully the oyster shells are helping Got a harshelled egg from my leghorn. Still waiting for one more hen to lay,, she might be taking today off though. we'll see

oh my gosh! I know, right now it's like a game to see how many we get since they just started laying plus what color. today my guess was 4 eggs, 3 brown and 1 white. well I was close! Nugget took a day off or I would have been

Have you tried putting golf balls in their nest boxes? I also have free choice oyster shells in all of my coops. Once in a great while I have gotten a soft shell egg.






When they first start laying it isn't uncommon to get several double yolk eggs. Here is a double yolk inside a double yolk. When I open the first egg the yolks did break but you can still see two distinct yolks. This egg was layed by one of my RSL's.


This is the double double yolk egg next to a regular large egg.

yes, I put golf balls in nesting box, I put the nesting box on top of their nest then everyone laid in it except for on who laid beside it, so I moved it over a bit incase she couldnt get to it and they all laid in their nest today but not nesting box LOL And yesterday we started the oyster shell.

I even put a real egg in the nesting box to trick them. So I will just have to move it back over their nest today
