Show Off Your Rescue Chickens!

How many of them do you have and how many eggs do you get daily from them?
I’ve got eight, I had 10 but two sadly died of age (as best I can figure) the most eggs I’ve ever gotten from them was three in one day, they averaged 2. Now I do have one that I got as a pullet that lays almost every day, like 2 weeks straight before she breaks for a day or two but she’s currently finishing a molt and is pretty sporadic.

Sorry to hear that you lost 2. I think it’s pretty cool that you were able to rescue them. From the research I’ve done it seems that the broiler industry makes it near impossible to get ahold of the parent stock that create the Cornish cross.

Well at least the last bit of their life was good.
I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. The guys I was working for had already had to dispatch about 200 that the clean up crew had left and they were getting tired of it and they had chickens coming in a week or so and needed them gone. As for the one I got as a pullet, well she escaped when they were unloading fresh pullets in the houses across the road. I actually have a son I hatched from her, his dad is a red ranger and he’s a beautifully beefy bird. He’s currently about 10lbs but he did hit upwards of 18ish before I made him start working it off. (Tossed him in with a few roosters and older hens he ran off the extra weight fairly fast :lau )

18 pounds :th

This is Anne Frank. She escaped extermination at the egg laying factory, and then escaped my German Shepherd. That’s how I found her, running in my yard. She’s had it rough but I’m going to try to take care of her and integrate her in my flock.

Popcorn, a craigslist rescue. She's very tame and likes to sit on laps.

Cheeto, Popcorn's brother. He is a good roo that doesn't over-mate the three hens and gets along great with other roos.

Chester, who I found abandoned in a parking lot. He likes to follows me around and enjoys being pet like a cat.

Belial, another craigslist rescue. Unfortunately, he's a bit aggressive towards humans, but seems to be doing well with his flockmate, Domino.

Domino, who I got because he was a bully in his last flock. He's human aggressive, so he and Belial have a separate pen from the rest of the roo flock.

Olive, who I got because her previous owners didn't want chickens anymore. She doesn't like being held, but still eats treats from my hand.

Ares, a spunky little OEGB who's previous owner couldn't keep roosters. He died of unknown causes a little while ago. :(

Lupin, who was going to be eaten if I didn't take him. He's a bit skittish, but will eat from my hand.

Griffin, Olive's brother. He is part of my rooster-only flock, and is great at resolving fights.

Horus, a sweet roo that likes to sunbathe on my lap. His previous owner had too many roosters, so he was going to be eaten.
