Show off your roosters

Why is it that most roosters now have short tails. My legacy we did a quick measurement today and his tail is almost 3 feet long. He has no game bird in him, and no long tail breeds in him he is just an old fashioned breed from way back in the 1920's that originated from Maine. I can't believe the differences in the old breeds and the breeds they have these days. It use to be that people prized their roosters for their tails I guess not so much any more??? In fact I was shocked at my Delawares little tail, over a year old and its puny. Tomorrow I will add his picture in here as well as my little Mexican rooster, both have long tails. maybe I can get my son to hold Stormy while I hold the little man next to him. Huge difference in size but both carry that tail that we all loved when we were younger.

If manliness use to be judged by the tail of a rooster then the newer breeds are only half the man that the old breeds use to be.

Lol! My SS Hamburg thinks he's very manly (don't tell him he's still just a boy)! He's almost 8 months old and this is what his tail feathers look like right now. He's very proud of them!

This is my alleged Americauna rooster, named Dufus. He is the sweetest rooster I have ever had, He doesn't even think of giving me grief when I am around his girls.

Thanks! It just keeps growing, it's amazing! I can't wait to see what it looks like when he's fully grown.

When I choose a full grown rooster to add to my flock. I always look at the tails. The bigger the better. I also have noticed that the hens prefer the longer prettier tails. I had 26 GLW hens a few years ago and 3 males, The hens all went for the one with the longest tail. They would ignore the ones with the shorter tails. When my oldest one lost his tail to a dog, All the hens went to the one with the next longest tail. I guess they know what it's for. And the boys do attract females and people to look at the tails.

Ok here is my Big guy 100% Legacy.

A bit to close I think. However he is big.

Him with his Legacy daughter.

Stormy next to our Rhode Island red (Not) hen. little man is in the far corner of the pen sleeping you can just see his black tail.
