Show off your roosters

What are you calling reverse lacing? Just curious. I had a rooster that looks like this but had a blue tail with blue under coat.

Lot him winter before last.
Usually lacing is when the pattern color edges the feather, with the base color on the inside, unbroken. This guy has the base color rimming the feather, and the 'pattern' color is on the inside, completely unbroken. Technically, it's 'penciling' but there is no penciling on the inside, just solid pattern color. That's the really unusual bit.

I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it. I very much appreciate your knowledge and your willingness to share it!!

(not only in this instance... I've seen many informative posts from you!)

I swear it seems like Doug poses for the camera.

What breed is he?

What breed is he?

I used to think OEGB but then one day I hit myself on the forehead and said, "You idiot! OEGBs don't have yellow legs!" At this point I'm thinking either a very hatchery quality Serama, or a ridiculously long-legged Jap Banty. Leaning toward Serama, since he has the tail and head shape and he's about as tiny as my boss' breeder Serama cocks.

How difficult is that to do?

Not too difficult, you just need steady nerves and a strong stomach. This time was the easiest and most succesful batch I've done, because I was working with a friend's antique tools not my crappy Nasco set. The right tools make all the difference. Cochins make remarkably good patients, they made the least fuss of any bird I've worked on.
