Show off your roosters

I read it's good for them to be able to see the hens because it helps with socialization but them knowing they can't breed the hens prevents them from fighting. So far it's working out for us. I'm glad to see someone else has been successful as well. I'm considering letting the roosters free range a bit in our yard. :)
we had a couple of roos that were being aggressive to our hens, someone on here said it was best to either separate them, eat them or sell/trade them, I love my chickens they are so funny they have there own personally, so we are on day 3 & so far so good!! Weve let ours free range in the yard & they have done great!!

Oh how exciting. Do you mind if I follow your progress? We hatched out eggs and got to many roosters this year. We don't want them eaten so guess this is our only option lol. We are going to make it work!! Lol

I think my month-old lavender orpingtons are all 3 boys!! I was ok with 2, as I wanted to replace the daddys anyway, but was hopeful for 1 girl. Dangit. Lol

any ideas for aggressive roos? my mean cock has been chasing one, and recently i found him leaning against the fence looking lethargic after the mean cock chased him across the yard.

If you catch him being aggressive I have read to pick them up once they are calm enough and to carry them around with you until they are calm. Talk soothingly and also little pets here and there while carrying them. You want to act as human as possible and try not to behave as a rooster would or they will start to challenge you every day. If aggressive towards another chicken I squirt them with the hose lol

i can't catch him! even when he is calm! he moves too fast! my roosters almost seem to react before something even happens. they can sense when i am going to move. LOL.i have been spraying him in the face with ACV and water, but that doesn't seem to be working anymore.

The problem might be that he is distrustful of you. Have you tried a schedule of treats he just can't resist like mealworms or scrambled eggs. My chickens like those more then the worms lol. Try taking him some scrambled eggs every night. Start by just throwing them out there and then once he eats it try getting him to eat from your hand. This takes patience but give it a week. Once he eats from your hand try to pick him up and carry him around for Adleast 30 mins. It's alot of work but by the time your done you won't even recognize him anymore. He will be your lap rooster haha.. :p
