You think grey? To me the feathers coming in on his body look blue. My rooster ,the chicks father was solid black until about 3 mts of age. I hatched him and a hen last May, both black chicks with black beaks and legs. My hen ,the mother of the chick is black beak legs and feathers. The baby roo has a sister , black .. I'm not 100% sure of the breed. I think Shamo Thai mix.

Looks like recessive wheaten.

Spencer, your english spangle/mottle orpington is absolutely gorgeous and WOW I finally found a roster that looks a lot like my two "surprise" chickens from the breeder. Thanks so much for posting your pic, As an aside, I was going to take a pic of my 3 buff orp roosters, they all came in the same box, all looked alike, and as they grew up one is gigantic, one is about average and then there's the smallest one (really I thought he was a Banty) who matured out in 3 months, half the size of the biggest one, had the best colored comb and wattles. So last week I went out with camera in hand to take a pic and found the little one laying dead under the roost. Checked him out, not a mark on him, perfectly good rooster, other than dead. I think his hormone imbalance got to him. Now I'm hoping I don't lose the big guy....
