Show off your roosters

He looks to be about a year old based on spurs. Any frostbite from last year would show shortened, almost amputated, appearing tips of the comb. Usually it is on the tips and can appear as blistering shortly after. With the relatively mild winter we've had, I'd lean to pox.

Battle scars would also appear more linear and not in the 'meat' of the comb, usually something easier to claw or bite. Also battle scars will also occasionally have some marking on the wattles from beak bites.

Not everyone has a mild winter, mine have some frostbite on their combs, even the ones who had it in past years, so I'm familiar with frostbite.

my roo recently attacked a young toddler. his spurs are not out yet, but almost. she ran, then she fell and he got on top of her, attacking her. i am going to clip his spurs the second they come out. the thing is, he is my favorite. his name is Hats. he is a polish roo. no, i am not culling,putting down, or giving him away. but i need this aggression to stop. every morning, he puffs up at me. please help! i want my old, nice Hats back! (every so often, he will attack me. i have to kick him or seriously frighten him to get him to stop.)

There are lots of threads dealing with aggressive roosters. Read up. Lots of ideas that work for some, and other things that work for others. Find the one that works for you.

P.S. I prefer twisting spurs off, to trimming. But that's another thing that varies greatly, based on people's preferences. Look up all the different methods of spur removal/reduction.

I was terrified to do it. But got a rooster that's spurs were already way too long. I wasn't "attached" to him at the time, so I thought what the heck? I'll try it!

It was so simple! My husband held him for me, and I was so nervous, and took so long to do it, he fell asleep in my husband's hands! He didn't even feel it.

But still, find what works for you.
